Re: what thickness line for pikeing?
I don't do a lot of Pike fishing (putting it mildly! ) but when I do I use a lot stronger line than that. I use 30lb braid on my light lure rod and 60lb braid on my jerk-bait rod. When dead baiting I use 18lb and 20lb mono but like I said I don't go often. Hopefully we will be having a Pike social soon and you could come along and learn quite a bit like I did last year!

spot on 15lb mono providing the water isnt too snaggy will be fine, if it has big rocks ford escorts hiding under the surface though step the line up to 20lb mono for bait fishing, or get hold of some 50lb powerpro braid and use it for everything

There you go
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/power-pro-braid-carp-pike-tench-cod-300yd-red-bs-choice_W0QQitemZ250301759609QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item250301759609&_trkparms=72%3A1301%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A3%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
I have used it for my long range carp fishing for 2 years now. It's still the same stuff on the spools and as good as the day it went on

Re: what thickness line for pikeing?
Just be careful casting big heavy dead baits as if you catch your finger it will cut it down to the bone. And don’t let it twist round the top of the rod as it will have that off as well. (This is a public health announcement on behalf of the 3 fingered fishing party )

I must admit that I am not looking forward to buying three new spools for the new reels and fitting them with braid about £120 me thinks

The trick is back it and use the 300m spools thats what i did with my ones. the trick is put your 300 m of braid on your spool then put your backing on so you get it spot on to the brim then just take it of that spool onto your reel that way its spot on to the rim and you have the full 300m on the spool.

Re: what thickness line for pikeing?
Andy Macfarlane wrote:Unless you do a lot of drifting or long range casting, there's no need for any more than 100 yards of braid on your reel. Back it up with 17lb Daiwa Sensor and you're laughing. I leave my rods set up with a Berkley Swivel/Cross-Lok, so I don't have to chop my braid every time I go fishing. I just check for any signs of wear and tear but it's rare for me to trim mine. Once you've had 2 years out of it, take it all off on a grassy field and swap it round for another 2 years use.
I use a uni-uni knot for joing my backing to my braid. I feel pretty comfortable knowing little will happen if I ever have a fish on while down at the knot.
mine arew only loaded with 150m of the stuff bar two which have 300, and 450 on em the 450 is on the 13 ft 3.5 drifter rod ive only ever emptied the spool once drifting and gad to give up as i lost sight of the float after a sneeze and couldnt see it again turned out the vane had come off
never had the wind right since
Re: what thickness line for pikeing?
Braid is a must for my pike fishing, its improved my hook up rate no end, I will order the 3 new spare spools and braid for when I am back from holiday
