catfishing in essex

hello everyone

i have done a bit of catfishing but have not yet caught one, i have hooked into one before but unfortunately it snapped my line. I was just wondering if anyone knew a good place to fish for catfish in essex.

nice one naquant, i targeted the elusive catfish last year n didn't even manage to hook one so ya did better than me mate

ive been locked up solid with them at oaklands, never got the chance to bank one, this year...

Caught loads about the 20-28lb mark while carp fishing There is a good lake in Hertford but you have to be over 18 to fish it. but there is this lot

he is 14 mate just some one keeps changing it

Jimmys lake yes there over 40lb now but its not cheap for a day there

i did think he was a young lad and now you mention it i remember him saying he was ken's nephew.

he seems to be doing well at his young tender age, he's got a nice carp and he's hooked a cat which is more than i've done. maybe i'll get him to whisper a few things into my shell hahaha

stotty, i know the owner of oak lodge he also has another lake in billericay which has some nice carp and big cats, cats to 86lb last year and carp to 36lb last year lol.

lol they put up a proper good fight , i use a boat rod, 20lb line, 25lb braid, either a string of halibuts, boilies or i use deadbait

good stuff mate. i've tried and failed with all those baits. i was using fresh salmon fillets hair rigged and got plauged with carp. i've got afew more tactics to try this year, mostly fishing up in the water. a lot of catfish fall to baits/live fished just under the surface so that'll be my next approach when the weather warms up

have doen the one in Benfleet.. Very hard indeed.. Last year went there 10 times for catfish, blanked on all of them for Catfish, but caught a few 15lb+ Common's from it.

Pellet waggler firing pellets consistently... or pellet waggler with a huge bunch of big worms...

on the venue i'll be targeting them on i reckon that pellet tactic would probably get the carp in a frenzie. the worms would be worth a try though, i was popping big bunch's of drendra's up usin a boilie i put a load on the hair then the pop up and then a load more worms it looked s**t hot but only got......................CARP hahah

I did a 24 hour session on Withy Pool a few years ago with Cats in mind. I was told that Liver would probably be a good choice of bait so I bought a pound or so. During the day nothing happened, but once it was dark the alarms didn't stop!! Despite all the pick ups and short runs I never connected with a single fish. When it got light I mentioned this to the angler fishing nearby, he just laughed! Carp! he said, they pick up the Liver and suck the blood out of it, drives you mad sometimes.

thats why they use liver in a boilie but in kevin maddocks book IN PURSUIT OF CARP AND CATFISH he said he did well at withypool (before he bought it) on whole squid. But i have caught carp on squid rings as well
