Who's Out There Fishing ???
Saw this on another forum and couldn't find one similar here . It's a good opportunity to post without having to think up a new subject or to describe your most recent or memorable session PBs or blanks etc, describe your methods/techniques
and question each others or just extract the urine It's also a good opportunity for us newbies to see how you more experienced chappies work . So let's hear it .

Re: Who's Out There Fishing ???
yes i would have to agree thats what we have the blogs for for every one to tell there accounts of there latest session .
and i have to say there are some very good reads from the members on here and i have enjoyed reading there,s and writing my own .
but if you want to know how i think and go about my fishing its like this i,m well stocked and prepared with a big shed purely dedicated to my array of different baits and portions and a freezer that again is well stocked with boilies, pastes and many other frozen goodies including a big variety of pike baits to go fishing on a phone call.
all my gear is seperated into particular species so if i want to carping i pick up the carp gear same with the pike and zander i pick up that and so on .
i all ways keep my ear to the grape vine especially on my favourite playground the fens to give me as much info to help in my own personal fishing
i,m all ways prepping baits, making rigs some i,m all ways ready to go , and doing as much home work on the places i,m going to target and watching what the weather is doing leading up to any planned trips .
i also all ways try put 110% in the fishing and while on the bank i,m watching and listening to whats happening where i,m fishing .
i,ll all ways try and give as much help and advice to anyone who ask for help well that about covers it
but i love every minute of it regardless if its helping getting prepped and of course the fishing bit aswell and i can take the blanks along with the good/red letter days
now what about yourself fenman2 how to you approach your own fishing ?

Re: Who's Out There Fishing ???
Saw this subject on a different forum and it was very successful thought it might work here...hope I haven't trod on anyone's toes .
My approach to fishing is ,I suspect, much the same as most peoples .
In the main I'm a pleasure angler and fished perhaps just four or five different venues
all the time until you (Kev) posted that list of venues, so now I'm going to spread my wings a bit .
I enjoy my pleasure angling ,fishing is all things to all men, but would I like to do a little more "specimen" angling ,hence my presence on this site, before I get too old to cart all the gear around !! And I live in just about the right area for it too .
But I like to know what I'm doing before I attempt it and this usually involves a lot of faffing around before hand .
Today is a good example, I fished a river (from your list) very picturesque, calm and peaceful . Saw a Kingfisher which is always a plus unfortunately I only saw two small jacks....but every session is good practice and you can't win it if you're not in it !!!
Also as a beginner to piking, a 20lber would very likely have frightened the life out of me so those two little jacks ,which would probably qualify as live bait to you lads, provided me with essential experience for when the bigger stuff appears .
My view is that the poor days and the blanks make the red letter days red.

Re: Who's Out There Fishing ???
I agree with you 100% as a novice the capture of a few jacks is vital training if you'll pardon the expression. And if your not fishing with an experianced Pike angler, things can easily get out of hand, these smaller fish offer the chance to learn how to handle the bigger fish. The great pleasure in fishing ( for me) is to be on a quiet, remote fishery where few people venture, and while fishing to be aware of, and enjoy the wildlife. So you share the same thoughts and passions as many of the lads on here. Enjoy.

Re: Who's Out There Fishing ???
well fishing is a life time of learning , the wildlife is a priveledge
and to get out and just catch a fish is a plus they don,t need to be huge to give you a enjoyable session
i,m glad the venue list was helpful

For unhooking, give me a mid double upwards. I have to say that more Pike of the 5-9lb mark have given me a trouble when unhooking. When fish get to mid doubles there jaw becomes much stronger almost like a mans jaw so you can get a better hold and therefor control of the fish.

My last Pike was in November!
Been out 3 times since and blanked.
Hoping to get out again this week but the ice is making it hard going.

Dont get me wrong Stotty river Pike are great sport and fight really well in the flow but they are not easy to find and especially find feeding but if you can pin them down the sport can be none stop

Problem is...one by one the "running water" in my area is becoming rock solid!!
And they forecast worse to come
This is West Norfok, we're not used to this white stuff that keeps falling out of the sky

Re: Who's Out There Fishing ???
I knew I'd struggle to find a venue that wasn't iced over today but thought I'd try anyway.
First stop was Brandesburton. No luck there as you can see in the photo.
Next I tried Leven Canal but that was frozen too.
Cruised past Beverley Beck which was the same.
My last stop was the River Hull.
I didn't feel very confident in catching here due to the Seal problem and me never fishing it either!
But it was worth a bash as it was to early to go home yet. lol
Well I gave it a few hours but no luck.
Oh well, lets hope some ice starts to melt soon.
I know rivers are the way to go but still can't wait to get back to my regular haunts.
