Re: Stuck on carp fishing. HELP PLEASE
compstall... is that Stockport? Not an area I'm too familiar with I'm afraid.
Welcome to the site mate, hope you manage to find what you're looking for.
What were you trying?
For a basic set up, look at hair rigged size 10 hooks to a 12lb main line using a running rig.
Those are the basics that will have caught millions of fish. Don't try anything complex until you get the confidence and you should be ok.
You may be better off trying a commercial lake as opposed to a private fishery.
Commercials will set you in good stead to catching a few.
Have you fished a while and just moving onto carp fishing or are you new to the whole fishing thing altogether?

Re: Stuck on carp fishing. HELP PLEASE
Well for me the most important aspect of carp fishing is watercraft; you can have the best bait and tackle in the world but if you are fishing in the wrong place, well, you may as well stay un bed. Big carp are a different thing to small carp on a highly stocked water. What sort of water is it? What size of carp are you after?
Also going through the mags web sites etc its boilie this boile that. There’s more to successful carp fishing than boilies when your starting carp will eat most things Meats, nuts, maize, corn, beans, bread, maggots, worms etc etc etc..
What i am trying to say is there are 101 ways to catch a carp with 101 baits but first of all we need to know the sort of water and the size of fish your after
O and 2

Re: Stuck on carp fishing. HELP PLEASE
try asking the lads who may fish it often what they use ie bait and if they dont tell you look around the banks for clues (they may have a bag of bait showing) also look in the tops of the bins for empty bag of baits that should give you a clue too .
have a look at some of the rigs on here but keep it simple its all you need and as stotty has said water craft watch the water for signs of the carp hope this helps..

Re: Stuck on carp fishing. HELP PLEASE
If the Carp are taking off the top then that's what you should be doing ( tried Dog biscuit yet?). But there are times that they dont show, and then boilies on a hair may well be the bait to try, but all of the baits Stotty mentioned will catch Carp, and are less expensive too!

Re: Stuck on carp fishing. HELP PLEASE
The answer to that is like asking how long is a piece of string! lol. There is no hard and fast rule, each water will be different. But thats the wonderful thing about fishing. Ledgering will catch Carp and so will float fishing. You just need to try both and see what's best for the water you're fishing. But as already stated keep it simple to start with. Enjoy the learning, and ask as many questions as you wish, someone will help you out.

Hemp is a great attractor, but not just for Carp. Almost every species of fish love it, so you will need to be aware that you could well attract The Bream and Tench etc etc etc. I use lots every year.
