removing a barbed hook safely ??? Empty removing a barbed hook safely ???

daft question but ive never had to use barbed hooks for carping but apex its the rule barbed hooks only what is the safest way to remove 1 is it best to push from the eye up so it pops out yes i know dip stick but i dont want to end up ripping the carps lip

I would recommend the use of forceps Craig, and if possible I push the hook by the shank away from the point of entry. If the hook is well into the mouth just take your time, never pull the hook at an angle. Thats how I manage.

As Ken said the hook should be pushed out following the entry route. Barbed hooks tend to go in then not move and if pushed the opposite way cause less damage then trying to twist them. if its in hard in the mouth a pair of forceps on the bend of the hook and again push the opposite to entry. All but the most stubborn hooks will come out neatly like this but like all things its confidence and practice.
