Paste and fishing with it
Paste
It can be a great edge for float and pole fishing in the margins in the colder months. I like to use the same stuff I’m feeding in to make my paste from, an example would be good old green swim stim pellets (these are a top bit of kit) I have made some great paste in the past with it. It is easier to make paste from small pellets rather than large pellets because they grind up easier in the wife’s food blender . There are various ways to make paste just add hot water to the pellets and mix then cover with cold water and leave overnight, I prefer to grind up green swim stim pellets in a blender I like to leave some of the powder to which I can then add this to my pastes to make into a firm paste if so required. I also like to throw in a few other micro pellets I have lying around (I will also mix this lot in with my feed). Just to make it different from the standard swim stim. However any fishmeal pellets can be used and normally I just add hot water and knead into a paste although again I will blend some pellets to make both the paste powder and some of this will go into my ground bait, you can also add your own additives and flavors then to make it you own recipe! But I tend to use on the hook what I’m feed into the swim. The paste does come off your hook if not mixed stiff enough but as long as you are fishing dead depth or a little bit over then it doesn't matter as the carp Hoover it up and your hook with it. Another good way of mixing it up is use an egg instead of the water this makes a very thick paste and is great for putting round boilies as an extra attractor that will break down or be picked off by the smaller fish.
You can get pellets pre-ground and this can save your marrage and this stuff is tops

If you do have a problem with it falling off you hook take a look at the
KORUM PASTE SPRINGS
ingenious little device ensures that your paste stays in position on the hair, without falling off. It can be attached to the hair in many ways, but most anglers use a drop of superglue or a small shot. The Paste Spring can be used for pole or feeder fishing with total confidence and is excellent for fishing stiffer pastes like the egg one.
It just another handy things to take with you when things are hard.

Re: Paste and fishing with it
the way a freind of mine used to do it was like this
pellets in a bait tub hot water enough just to cover the pellets 4mm pellets cheaper to buy in bulk (he was a tite get) then would place clingfilm over and left over nite the next morning the soaked pellets would be put on a maggot riddle and for even finer powder back on the maggot riddle or for even finer powder a sieve with verry small holes then add some lake water when he got there he used to do good with this then i found out a secret bait he added that was spam frozen then liquidized he added it in just before making the paste for the smellyness

Re: Paste and fishing with it
when i fish paste on the pole the softer the better, i use a long tipped pole float and set it so when the paste is on the tip is just showing from the water and the paste is resting on the bottom and then when the paste comes off the float rises up to the neck of the float and you know its time to rebait. also with it being soft and comming off regularly you are also helping to bait the swim and its a nice easy slurp for the carp to take in that looks and feels like the rest of the bait.

My Bait : this season i will mostly be using MAGGOTS
Re: Paste and fishing with it
the way i used to do it was this Swimstim groundbait - Add almost boiling water to a bowl and then sprinkle on the groundbait, keep adding until it is very sloppy and then leave for 10 minutes, the mix will stiffen when it begins to cool. This is a great paste used on the pole very soft, it breaks down within a couple of minutes to leave a small pile of feed.
Great for carp, bream and tench fished over pellets. If you want to add flavours add it to the water before adding the groundbait. like blower on the deck with the tip just showing and when it comes off i used to hit it anyway incase i had a fish swiming upwords towards the float

Re: Paste and fishing with it
also try using a small piece of corn on the hook and wrap the paste around it if the paste does come off when fishing soft there is still a bait on the hook to atract the fish more green swimstim and a bright yellow corn worked well on some carp puddles never really tried it tho in winter

Re: Paste and fishing with it
I guess there's no hard and fast rule to fishing paste, so I got the matching paste for the boilie Im using at the social to try out, guess with the (slightly) warmer water temperatures it should leach of a nice bit of attraction.
Worth a go I guess.

Yes that is a frozen ball to the right just defrost it the night before Darren and my self used some of the uncolored stuff a few months back it worked well.
This one has red food color added to it makes it look a bit more like CC4C

Re: Paste and fishing with it
not read the whole thread so don't know if this has been mentioned but if i'm fishing paste on the pole i'll mix my paste with egg and water, i make it a sloppy as possible so it sticks to my hand, the egg gives it a bit of extra 'tack'
you only want it just to hold the hook, a small kinder pot is a must (if you use a cable tie the paste is too hard imo)
also a loaded long bristle paste float is better in water no deeper than 6' any deeper and the float pulls the hook out of the paste all too easily, use weights and they can pull the hook out due to the faster sink rate, if it is deeper than 6' then an unloaded paste float with suitable olivette is the way to go with a very slightly stiffer mix
another thing when paste fishing is you want the fish to stay on the deck, this is why i put a good couple of pot fulls of hemp down and feed hemp in the kinder pot with the paste (hemp sinks quick unlike pellets which keep the fish down) i also dampen some of the same micro pellets used to make the paste and each time i feed i pinch some together into a lump and that goe's in too, as they are pinched together they sink quicker (keeping them on the bottom) and it replicates the lump of paste thats on your hook
use the biggest, strongest hook you can, your lump of paste wants to be a good inch sized piece, paste sorts out the better fish
