has been doing huge pike for years (to the italians and swiss now the germans have invaded along with a lot of wealthy soviet types) thats why i trundled over for two days fishing there last time i was in the alps (well the dolomites its part of the alps chain but all crumbly limestone and via ferrat) climbing but alas nothing big came my way, its a effin huge sheet of water with ridiculous depths where that pic was taken its around 15-20 m deep some 'swims' have boulders in em the size of the boulders at y dinas cromlech (bout the size of a double decker bus) its hard work as well
i was very lucky to catch when i went so wont complain too much about the size
Re: 60lb pike??
I had a 21lber on my ultralite gear and it was horrible my rod and reel made some cracking noises

Must be nice to have fished and caught on the water which has produced the largest pike ever to be caught on rod and line

have you seen the locals fish it then
they all use these walking floats (mostly for the trout in there) called diapiombo's (spp memory is a bit vague) and just use tiny little fly spoons and spinners on 4-5 m telescopic rods. thats how most of the pike come out i was well overgunned with 30lb braid and a solid glass spinning rod i got free over there with a bottle of wine (i kid ye not 10 euros for 5 litres of local red and the shopkeeper who sold me the permit gave me a rod as well)
