Re: pike handling
You will have to chin the pike to unhook it in the first place, if your new to pike angling then I would let somebody else do the unhooking and handling.

Re: pike handling
Not the best idea to start with, first I would let someone else unhook any pike your lucky enough to catch. Then I would practice the chin hold on the ground and make sure your putting your hand in the right spot, put that one back so as not to stress it too much next time you can try the hold again and see if you can unhook the fish, picking her ups the last thing you want to do until your confident your grabbing the right bit. This will save a lot of pain for you both !

As an aside to this post.....The Thames Anglers Conservancy (TAC) are holding a pike handling day at Hurst Park (downstream of Sunbury) on October 28th from 08.30 till 14.00 All are welcome. A similar event was held in 2010 and was a great success.

Re: pike handling
It's just a confidence thing once you have been shown how its pretty easy really.
I only worry when I can't see exactly where the hooks are.
Good luck and enjoy!
