hello lads

i am going fishing for zander tommorow for the very first time and would just like to ask a few questions if that is ok

1) What areas are better open, snaggy or weedy areas
2)what baits are best, ie: Roach, sardines etc.
3) Is it worth trying a lure towards weedy margins???

Was there any zander caught??

a nice fat carp though...

If i'm honest young Tom, Zander are pretty scarce fish and what i mean by that is there only situated in certain parts of the UK so location location location is everything, now i'm lucky enough to have caught a Zander or two in my life and my PB stands at 9lb 12oz i'm not going to give away the location mainly because one of our members fishes this area quite often and it would be a shame if other anglers piled down and ruined his venue.

but what i can tell you about catching zander is they pretty much lurk in similar areas as pike, and the best method of attack would be for me small trebles 10's are good also smaller baits as zander have much smaller mouths than pike, try and make your rigs as light as possible for instance use rigs such as paternoster rigs, also use 6" or 12" ledger stems it keeps your line off the bottom and give less resistance to the zander will run with the bait

Also fresh bait is paramount IMO live baits always for me 3to4" skimmers or roach even dace are a zanders favourite bait zander favour fresh water baits over sea deads so always use fresh lives you will catch on deads but lives are much prefered

no i havent mate i have never even fished for pike until around november last year so all this pred stuff is totally new to me aswell and i must say im enjoying it all now. i just need to get out and wet a line or 2 now
