Nearest Zander

Hi

I have never caught or seen a zander in the flesh ...........but with my newly found pike obsession [thats what the wife calls it ] - i have also found an interest in all things predator.


I just wondered where is the nearest 'real' opportunity to fish for this species is if you are based in West Yorks - and i don't mean that lake with two in - I mean opportunity to try catch some proper zander.

stupid me i had been reading about cats, b4 posting sorry, you know me lads too many illegal regal.

if you mean that lake with 2 in that i told you about mate i'll have you know it held the yorkshire record for quite some time at over 14lb. the bailiff told us that nevvile fickling leased those lakes before he got the lease and apperently released a fair few zander in there, although he has never admitted it.
i dont know how you would go about singling the zander out but you could try for pike and hope a zander comes along. or try for zander and be happy a pike came along

like kev says the Trent is the nearest place for us in west yorks!
i spent few days in bedfordshire on Boston y pits its joined to the
great river ouse! managed to catch mi first zander 10lb 9oz
on a massive mackrel tail intended for the pike

Is there anywere around tilney st lawrence kev....At the back of the house is a drain that looks tidal but looks depleate of life!

Well im visiting my little girl this weekend but could meet up with you towards the end of next week or the week after,ive no tackle down there yet as ive not taken any down but i can take a rod or two when i come back to norfolk this week.Not sure what bait i can get as im a pennyless bum at the min.Ive gone from earning more than i knew what to do with to having nothing but we definatley need to sort something out kevin....I have moved down to norfolk now so we can fish anytime realy,just let me know and we can organise something.....

As has been mentioned, the Trent offers the best chance of zander within an hour's drive.

They are widespread throughout the Middle and the Tidal, and it shouldn't be too difficult to catch one or two on scaled down pike tactics on summer nights.

I only targetted them a couple of times this season - losing one close in, but did manage to break my duck with a beautiful 4lber on a whole lamprey intended for pike.
