Weather and pike ??? Empty Weather and pike ???

Post by healdy Fri Jan 15, 2010 12:13 pm

Hi

Just a question for general discussion - In real terms i fish whenever i get the opportunity. I don't have the luxury of time to be able to fish to certain moon phases or weather patterns. However as a carper i do tend to know [though the carp often think differently] when my chances are better or not - settled weather etc.

So - what is the crack with pike................ with all this bad weather - like others i am desperate to get back on the bank. However when am i likely to have more success and when am i just plain wasting my time?

I presume that pike will become less active in v cold weather - but also they will hopefully eat at some stage and therefore a well placed deadbait will be easier to eat than chasing the natural prey fish [fingers crossed] - due to expanding less energy etc.

I also read an interesting article re moon phases this week - which from recollection suggested the period up to 8 days after a full moon was most fruitful - no idea why.

so just because i am stir crazy - but also because if i can learn anything helpful i want to ;

Please discuss - weather patterns - moon phases etc

Weather and pike ??? Empty Re: Weather and pike ???

I was told ( many years ago) by a famous Norfolk angler that, whatever the weather is, give the fish three days of it, and they'll be on the feed. So settled weather is what I tend to go by. Moon phases are somewhat confusing to me. I have caught under a full moon, I've also blanked, likewise when there's no moon. But high pressure does have an effect on fish, of this I personally have no doubt. But anglers will argue over this for ever.

Dont let it mess your head up mate, we are fun anglers that fish when we can, I dont care if the full moon is in the third quad and pluto is coming up Uranus. Fish when ever you can.

Its not done me any harm Wink
