Re: Make your own boilies
After watching a load of "how to" vids on youtube, I doubt I'll be bothering with what seemed like a s**t load of effort and time. whereas you can walk into a shop pay a tenner for a kg and away you go, so much easier.

Your spot on there as I have said before I have thrown away more baits than a lot of people have fished with. As for base mix I use Nutrabait but it’s a personal preference.

Re: Make your own boilies
i have been making my own boilies for a few week now. I've had a few dodgy batches, but one particular batch has worked very well. It got me 2 p.b within 2 hrs of each other. all this on a day when noone caught! the satisfaction is great!

Re: Make your own boilies
stottys cc4c boilies are great. both lots smell good enuff to eat for me let alone the fish. Best thing about stotty is he shares the love with his boilies and gets as much ( maybe even more) enjoyment in seeing others catch on his boilies.

Re: Make your own boilies
belive it or not, i put predator plus in. its a real sweet smell and makes the boilies blood red!
i'll definately be bringing some next week, it might just give me an edge.

Re: Make your own boilies
I have been requested to do a post on Boilies and the making of
You can make Boilies out of just about anything.
To make it very simple
1st you need a base mix (this can make or break it) i.e. fishmeal is an ideal base mix for the first time man/woman.
Fishmeal Boilies contain a good percentage of fishmeal, bird food Boilies a good percentage of bird food etc etc etc. I my self now start off with a base mix from a known company and then work with it adding my own ingredients and touches but in the good old days it could all be bought from the shop round the corner. Soya flour and semolina and ground rice or a combo of two or three was always the starting point.
Some base mix I have used
Mixture of Soya flour and semolina
8.0 oz Semolina
4.0 oz Soya Flour
2oz Milk Powder
2oz Ground Rice
But one of the best was
6oz Semolina
4oz Soya Flour
2oz Ground Rice
2oz Ground Nuts
2oz Milk Powder
3-4 large eggs should do it
I also like to add some salt and sugar to the eggs
2nd you need something to bind your mix and keeping it simple is egg LIGHTLY beaten or even stirred I also throw in a shell or two to give it some crunch.
3rd is flavor and colors being oils and colorings
4th which is optional but I think makes a Boilies a bait is a ground feed i.e. bird seed tiger nuts once again the combination is endless I once put peanut butter in that worked well but they did turn quickly.
Boiling time 1 to 3 minutes depending on the wanted result and mix...
The more cooked the harder the boilie will be, not enough and the boilies will not fished more than few hours.
The best is to build your own experience by doing time test on small amounts and for all the type of mix you intend to use.
The problem is this day and age companies spend £1000 of pounds getting it right field testing etc but there is nothing more satisfying than catching on your own I have said this in the past but I think I have thrown away more Boilies than some of you have fished with the difference in a few spoons of this and a few spoons of that can change it form a success to an utter failure.
This is a very simplified way and a good start but there are some good rolling companies out there that will produce Boilies for you

This is my take on it but you can also take a look at
