Braid - Why not ?
I've been looking around at some sites for commercial waters and I've yet to find one that allows braid . This doesn't make sense to me, surely braid is the safer and so more fish friendly option Any views or opinions would be gratefully recieved as I'm really mistyfied by this

Re: Braid - Why not ?
i can only think that some anglers dont know how to treat braid properly in respect to knotting etc and if it gets loose and snags on something it could cause a lot of damage to fish, perhaps with this in mind (and the price of carp) fishery owners would rather not take the chance???

Re: Braid - Why not ?
This has been debated on other sites many times, and as yet I dont think there's been a concensus of opinion. The one concern that seems to come up is the "cheese wire " effect. where scales can be lifted when a carp turns and the braid rubs across the body of the fish. But i would imagine this happens with mono just as easily.

Re: Braid - Why not ?
This is a huge debate there are several reasons
Braided lines are being banned at some fisheries and club waters because of their misuse by some anglers. (we have a ban on it on our club for carp fishing) Because of the thinner diameter of braid some anglers are using upwards of 60 lb+ bs line in an attempt to drag Carp out of weed and snags that should not be fished this then can result in
ripped faces
Tethered fish
and even can cut fish open if they role on it
But in Its defense I got the rules changed this year to allow it for pike fishing as I think it it’s the opposite,
It set hooks better you get the fish in quicker (this is better all round for the Pike) Mick Brown even brought this up at a talk he did a few years back.
It is also Especially good for lure angling and i would not have any thing other on my marker rods for feature finding. Another plus and great advantage of braid though is probably the fact that due to its almost stretchless properties, it has no memory and therefore doesn’t seem to suffer from line twist
Since changing over to braid for my pike fishing 3 years ago it made a great difference to my pike fishing and i'm still on the same braid so its not as bad as you first think when you look at the cost.

The Braid Knot
This special fishing knot has been proven to be one of the best for use with braided lines.
1. Run Double loop through eye of hook or lure or swivel
2. Loop around end of line and standing part of braided line 8 times. Thread double loop back between the eye and coils.
3. Tighten knot with a steady, even motion without hesitation. Trim double loop and end of braided line leaving about 1/4".

Like you I fish a bit over gunned for the job but some of the rigs I have collected on work parties are nasty not good for carp at all. But I have got braid reinstated for pike fishing on our lakes.

It still gob smacks me this day and age with all the advice on TV, magazines, the net that we still have s**t like this.
Wouldn’t mind but it’s a club and the fish go up to 40lb in there (carp that is)

Re: Braid - Why not ?
you should see some of the crap i see where i fish (lake district and welsh glacials)
people using 6lb braid through boulders the size of minis, hire boats with people using the kids sets and no wire...
i came to blows with a bloke a few years ago on coniston he wasusing 6lb mono and had lost 12 pike through his line parting, i offered him 15lb sensor. he replied nah mate they are only pike.
the worst bit though he had four fmj's out with lc baitrunners delks net mat etc
work that one out
sadly its not that uncommon from what i see that the worse thing for pike a carp anglers who think they know that light lines are better, as pike dont fight that hard
lately im getting very despodant about fishing things like this are starting to make me think why even bother going out
