hooks to nylon problems
Hello Lads, hope you are all well.
ive been fishing the flat match method a lot lately with great results but losing quite a few fish (F1s) using the Middy Method Feeder hooks to nylon size 12 to 0.20 line. the line often breaks at the hook which leads me to think that the spade end is a little sharp and chaffing the line (there's no way the fish are big enough to break the line). any suggestions on a reliable method feeder hook to nylon? or should i just start tying my own?
cheers
rich c
PS still waiting for the water to warm enough for the tench / crucian vs frozen lobworm experiment

Re: hooks to nylon problems
If the line is braking close to the hook then it's likely the spade end that's causing it. Far better to buy your hooks and tie them yourself, that way you can check the edges before tying.

Re: hooks to nylon problems
yeah, i would definately tie my own. also if your fishing the method id opt for a hair rig and just sit on your hands and let them hook themselves. im guessing by the fact you were using spades that your not using a hair.

I also use the drennan pre tied, but that's more to do with the fact I can't tie my own shoelaces safely

short hooklengths obviously work cos they are the norm but i personaly prefer a slightly longer one, probably more like 5". it doesnt seem to hamper my catch rate and it stops the feeder bashing the fish in the head during the fight so much. i also like to use a short bit of rig tube aswell to add a bit of a buffer the other side of the feeder too just to stop the line catching on fins and scales so much.
