Re: Best baits no longer used....
its a thing i cant get my head round mate, anglers say all the time this used to be good that used to be deadly. i cant imagine fish going off baits and the bait losing its edge. i know on pressured waters they can get warey to popular baits and such but the baits dont simply stop workin everywhere. i think its more like you say and peoples minds are made on the thoughts of other well known anglers who are promoting new baits and say thats the way forward

Re: Best baits no longer used....
I see it like this, big fish get used to baits they get caught on a lot. They think sod that last time I ate that it had a lump of mettle in it. I have however gone back to a lake years on with an old blown bait and done well. Its like that old Caramac bar thing you got sick of eating them then one day out of the blue some one goes hear you want one of them and you think I haven’t had one of those in ages go on.
Also why did we (I say we carp anglers) start using boilies, the boilies itself was a progression from those early paste baits, the anglers were catching a lot of 'nuisance' fish,
Or it got pecked off or worse you hooked something small so we made it bigger and harder (F**k off Nidge ) the rest is history.

My Bait : get on the bait Zone
Re: Best baits no longer used....
yeah thats true but only on certian waters where everyone jumps on the wagon and uses what everyone else uses so obviously in time the fish will get wise. but there are baits around that have been around for ever and are still very effective like meat or corn fish dont seem to turn thier nose up at those baits

nice big lumps of cheddar cheese, we did well on this in the early part of the season last year, first fish out was a 9lb bream.
