one for Mark - "The Planer Float"
Hi
Well after reading how bored Mark is due to the weather - and seeing his recent exploits with a drifter on the Res and other exploits on the rivers - as a result of reading a recently gifted PAC pikelines - thought i would throw this into the pot for discussion [ i had never heard of it or tried it but thought it would be right up your street fella ]
The Planer Float
Involves the use of a planer board to hold a bait in position on a river. - Involves fishing a live or deadbait under a float just as you might a free rover, but with a planer board clipped on up the line. The board [which seems similar to the same on the drifter ??] catches the current and prevents the baited tackle from swinging towards your own bank.
Thw writer goes on to describe construction; easily constructed from - i use a drifter stem but switch the positions of the drifter vane and polyball so that the ball is above the surface of the water but the vane is below. The vane then has an asymetric line controller fitted to it , which is made from a bit of stainless wire. I then just punch a couple of holes in the vane and fasten the wire to it using waterproof tape - the float should then be fished as a slider and attached top and bottom with the usual stop knot and bead set at the depth. Below the float should be a second bead to protect the knot and most importantly an uptrace to prevent bite offs. You need a good heavy lead at the bottom of the uptrace, which serves both to keep the bait down and also the float cocked and working against the current - clip your baited trace to the uptrace and your ready.
Cast the whole lot out into the flow and keep the rod high so as to keep the line off the water - apparently the float will then hold position midstream and a little below your position on the bank. By increasing the amount of line you have out you can then work it accross and down the river - thereby covering lots of water.
So there you are - like i said not mine - i have just been reading about it thought it was right up Mark's street. Has anybody used it or even heard of it?
Over to you!
Mark i expect this to be included in your blog - pretty soon

Re: one for Mark - "The Planer Float"
haha yeah mate sounds good that thanks for taking the effort. me n my mate was thinking of something like that. we was stumped as to how we could achieve such a thingbut was thinking along the lines of a vaine type device to so as the current passed it the vain would naturally want to move away from you but couldn't because of you holding it untill you wanted to give it more line.
thanks again matey i'll try get that issue of the pac and give it a try

Re: one for Mark - "The Planer Float"
scarily i know a couple who have both been steralised for medical reasons
they managed to have a child despite the hundred million to one odds or whatever the odds were.
oh and they also got a huge payout as well for emptional and physycle suffering (the bloke left as he couldnt beleive the child was his, he did return though but it wasnt a happy time for them)
think they got just over 300k
