‘The Method’
‘The Method’
what is it?
A way to present the hook bait next to a tight area of feed without being too complicated. I.e. PVA bags good when it’s raining as none of that wet hands and running out to cast method.
A lot of people think it’s a match mans thing a small fish thing but I can assure you I have had 20lb + carp on it over the years and at the right time of year on the right water it can still kill.
Using a ‘Method feeder’ and a short hook link, anglers are able to guarantee that the hook bait is within inches of free offerings. And the weight of the feeder makes it work like a big inline lead.
Weed, silt, and clay these things could affect how effective ‘The Method’ is on your particular water but when it works as I said it can really clear up.
One think if your going to be using big method balls and trying to cast them at range a strong rod is essential I have seen many years ago a lad smash a rod to bit trying to cast a huge method ball on a relatively light rod.
Also please IT MUST BE SAFE! No fixed feeders the mainline passes through the middle to a swivel at the base of the feeder; it is important that the swivel cannot pass back through the feeder. The hook link can then be tied onto the swivel to complete the rig. Before any method/ ground bait is placed around it, the swivel must be pushed back into the bottom of the feeder to make it a bolt rig.
The most essential part of fishing ‘The Method’ is the method mix itself It must be stiff enough to stick to the feeder for some time and survive the cast without breaking up this encourages the fish to attack the rig in order to remove the bait and in the frenzy snuffle your bait. One of the best thinks is put a little corn in the mix then fish a single plastic grain on the hair ok you get a lot of nuisance fish but on the right water its runs all day.
As for bite indication sit on those hands you will get taps and bangs but you will know when you get a take as they are normally quite savage.

Re: ‘The Method’
top info stotty, as you know from my blog the method has been doing the damage for me recently. works well for stillwater bream aswell as the carp. ive tried it on rivers a few times but with little sucsess. i think fishing it in the flow is counter productive as it washes off much like it would out of a cage and the short hooklength means your short of the bulk of the feed. thats just me tho and nothing to say it wont work on rivers for anyone else

Try using scalded pellet on the method feeder and a pellet on the hook

if i can add to this
if you use normal carp pellet which are let's say "plain" you can add your own flavours to it pineapple, scopex, halibut, and so on or even a combination of flavours
Re: ‘The Method’
i used to do a lot of method feeding when i first started fishing 2 years ago............. but i now prefer the open ended cage feeder, and usually on my quiver tip rod.
do you guys do it on your big guns as well?
