Re: Rods and Reels
Welcome to the forum Robcof
There are a couple of sea orientated folk on her that will be able to assist with your queries but the obvious questions would be:
What reel do you have?
Does it fit in the reel seat on the rod?
What type of fishing will you be doing?

Re: Rods and Reels
As Ed mentioned,as long as the reel fits on the rod (which almost every reel would do),and it can hold enough line for you to be able to reach the depths, and handle the fish you intend to catch, there's no problem.

Re: Rods and Reels
I also should have mentioned the fact your going to buy a 50 class rod, then I would seriously consider upgrading your reel, the signal is more than likely to explode with all the heavy winching required of it.
The reel would possibly cope better with 12lb class rods. But you'll soon find out how it gets on when you hook into a 20lb angry cod
