Post by joel Tue Aug 11, 2009 4:14 pm

I don't know if this is done regulary or is a daft idea, but if carp like chicken flavours etc how about putting gravy granules into pva bags, they'd disolve leaving a huge scent trail. Question

hair riged oxo cube? scratch it may go gooey on the outside but apart from a bit of a slick coming off it it would be a thick lump? like the ones in my mams gravy.....

bit jokey but if your gonna play about with gravy (and ive thought it before, think i even added some to some liquidized bread when i was a kid) then it may be worth a crack. infact im gonna go stick one in a glass of room temp water now just to see what happens

Oh ... I've never thought of gravy granuals.

One thing I've found interesting is that our pond find LOVE lemon cut it into segments and just chuck it in the pond and by morning they've stripped it to just the skin - very tempted to try lemon flavouring etc .... has anyone had any lemon related results???

its an old trick and works well the 'original vitalin' the one that cames in the yellow bag was good but i switched to the 'gravy vitalin' (red one) I think the added flavour of gravy was a good attractent. so yes its a good call I have also used wooster worcester sauce and tabasco and as Noodle said Bovril

Good luck with that then, 15 fish in 2 acres of water See Ya
Ive relocated anyway, I fished a lot in lancashire, mainly tewitfield locks, killingotn res, If you've not fished it yet Joel.....give it a go, tenner a day, park round near the dam wall, and fish the m6 side, well worth a walk round, packed with trout for bait.

thats way up near cumbria init pal.some decent pike in there i heard.this water is in east lancs, unless ya knew bout it ya would;nt hear bout it in press or forums, some nice pike, tench & bream in it to.But it's the carp that drive folk to stay on a week in the hope of a run.I know guys who fish it every chance they get for a season wi no runs.

May not be the best venue for you if your relatively fresh to the whole carp fishing thing, I know its not all about getting run after run, but you may question your ability if you blank for several sessions on the trot. Im happy catching, simple, gives me chance to learn about my rigs, methods and presentations.
All seemed a bit odd this post to start with, perhaps using gravy does work, and work well, but, even for me being totally new to the whole carp scene, I'd never have thought about using gravy, when there's fantastic pre made baits, which have proven track records for catching consistantly, and also catching big fish.
Maybe once I get a few better fish under my belt, and and fully confident in the way I fish I'll move onto the more unorthadox baits and additives, but for now...Boilies and small pva bags will do for me Wink

i need to start gettin on waters wi betta stamp of fish.I've been targeting waters wi a good head of 10-20lb carp.Still toppin out at 16.4oz.Had loads around that weight.Time to move onto the next level & i'm gonna spend the time up till the pike season targeting a club water that holds carp to 29lb.wi the average being over 15lb.heavily silted so i need to master this type of venue.
