Lob worm tactics!

Post by George1994 on Mon Aug 06, 2012 4:16 am

Maaaaaarnin fella's!

I was thinking of grabbing some lob worms from my local tackle shop this early eveing after work and having a wander down the thames for a spot of fishing.

As I've heard from this site and other fishermen, lobs are revered for the big perch! So, as I've never fished them before I was wondering if you guys could offer me some info into how to go about getting the best effect off them?

Cheers guys,
George :D

firstly i would save my money and dig my own. i personaly like to fish them off bottom. they wiggle more and dont bury themselves as easily. i also often nip the tails off too, this lets out more juices and makes them wriggle more and the perch love the vibrations.
other than that, the perch will still be in the same places you would expect to catch them and other than beefing your float up and under shotting it a little to hold your bait off bottom, fish them pretty much like you would maggots or any other float fished bait.
feeding chopped worm wont hurt either, get a good cloud of juice around your float should defo draw some perch in too. if your fishing a bit further out you can either feed this via a pole pot or just add a bit of breadcrumb or grounbait (something fishy or liquorish flavours like sensas black magic have always drawn perch in for me over the years) to hold it all together and get it out there

no worries, thats what the forum is form. as for collecting your own you have a couple of options. you will of course find the odd one if you just dig any old place but if you can find somewhere that has some sort of regular vegitation rotting in it thats a good place to look. i have an apple tree at the bottom of my garden and they love it in the rotted down apples.
you do also have the option of wetting the floor if its dry, just empty a couple of buckets or spray for a bit with a hose pipe or whatever and this should draw them up to the top a little bit and also make the ground more workable. another option and probably the easiest is to go to your local park or a field on a damp evening or when its been raining and you should find a fair few just mooching about on the top of the mud or on paths.
if you know someone with an allotment that needs digging or if they have a compost bin these are also good places to look.
and in the long term if you are going to use a lot, could make your own compost bin/wormery.
and just to make life easier i tend to just take any old worm, the ones that are too small for what you want as a hookbait use as chop.

Trash: Yeah, I was contemplating starting a wormery a while back, might look further into it. But I'll take that advice, might have a little look around a field near mine to see if I can grab a few worms today :)

Woody: I've heard about doing this haha seems a good way to make it work, if I do manage to get some worms today then I might give it a go!

If I manage to get out today and fish then I'll keep you posted :D
Cheers fellas!
