Mepps! Cant go wrong with a mepps 2 or mepps 3 in your armoury, Shayne

But as I found out the hard way - not quite time for the perch on lures yet. but when it is... BOOM!

like ed says can't go wrong with some mepps

abu tobys

the small savage smolt's, rattle shads and 4 plays will catch you fish. the smolts and shads are cheap enough that you don't mind losing em too much

small shads, grub tails and jigheads to suit

Mepps baby Superman
One thing you'll need to tinker around with tho,is the size of line you use,and the trace you use,if your throwing tiny mepps and have too heavy a trace on,the action of the mepp will be killed somewhat.
I won't advocate the use of lures without a trace if you know pike are present, but, I had all my perch on my ultralite travel rod and...3lb 6oz drennan double strength.

perch do love a mepps or two, but i would also suggest you get hold of some small plugs aswell, rapalas are a good place to start shad raps, x raps, husky jerks are all good for perch you want to be looking in the 3 - 7 cm range. also look at bomber lures and yogi's at sovereign super baits. and the new savage gear soft 4 plays are worth a look in the 9.5cm size they should be ok for the stripeys

Dont worry too much about not catching at this moment in time, a lot of canal Pike will be spawning and will not be interested in lures, it all starts getting interesting in April/May so dont be disheartened Wink Lads have covered all the lures that I would have said especially the Mepps/Ondex and Rapalas.
