Killer 'shrimp' invades Cambridgeshire reservoir

This popped up through one of my fish keeping sites A highly invasive amphipod has been discovered by anglers living in the Grafham Water reservoir, Cambridgeshire - the first time this species has been recorded in the UK.

It was on the BBC news too. And the T-A-C have posted this report on their website. Just another potential headache for us to suffer.

I don't think they're doing that , but they have issued guidelines for the people using the reservoir, and not just the anglers, all boat users too.

fortunately the guy who discovered them was working for the ea he was just out fishing when he noticed them all stuck to his waders, apprently they were mating, do you think this is another example of global warming i mean that as our waters are warming they now become more desirable to creatures who couldnt previously live in them?

Chinese mitten crabs, zebra mussels, Signal crayfish, now a killer shrimp i'm sure there will be some more as we warm up..

bit of an update on this old post

Special traps baited with cat food are being used in a bid to establish the extent of the spread of a "killer shrimp" in south Wales.
