Fladen Lures Empty Fladen Lures

Post by edbeef Wed May 26, 2010 3:04 pm

As I am just looking into lure fishing - hoping not to get the bug (Healdy, Neil, Woody, Tootall et al) - and cant tell the difference between a Jap crap and handmade masterpiece, I was wondering about the range of Fladen lures for perch/pike.

I ask knowing that a chico lure or whatever the top stuff are, are superior, but looking at the range I saw today made my wonder if such a company like Fladen are worth a try (they're not exactly pound shop...) and they look really "nice"

The ones in particular are the "piking Pirate endorsed" range (I know they probably never seen one before) and the precise ones are Fladen Conrad Minnow F 8cm and the popper. Priced at £4 and £3 respectively I wanted to see if anyone had ever used them and ended in success or a horror story.

As it's just perch on a lure I'm after (probably get a few jacks on the way), my ideal spinner is one I can't get hold of in time for my 1st trip out tomorrow (Stotty, that's an Ondex Wink ). Surely these might be worth a try on the canal?

Any help is gratefully received lol!

For a first timer testing the water I would say they would be fine. If you find you do get the bug though I would take a look at some of the lures by spro, rapala etc. For a couple more quid you get a longer lasting lure with better quality fixings and hooks etc.
My new faves are small little lures by spro - cost £4 and on it's first outing tonight I had a 3-4lb jack and a 1 lb + perch. forgot it's name but will post a link when I find it. Harris angling do free postage on them too.

Fladen are not a bad lure at all, but as rob has allready said I would test the fixings ie split rings and hooks before its first outing. I love lure fishing and I own far too many but if you give me any cheap lure that runs straight and true and I will catch you a fish on one. You put the magic into lures to catch the fish. Hungry Pike will take anything that looks half dead or struggling without a second thought so with a bit of thought and by finding the limitations of your lure you can catch the fish, simples Wink

Smashing, Harrissports is getting a hammering by yours and Healdy's credit cards at the mo and that's why I dont want the bug ha ha!

Not interested on big bits of wood for speci pike (yet) but as you may have read on my blog, I'm a sea lures and spinners kind of guy since about 10 years old so I'm scared... But I'd love a canal spinning sesh so I'm gonna do it and see how I do. Come on perchies, taste my plastic! Muhahaha

Thanks man, was the response I was hoping for. buy em and try em - not bad for the cash, but know there are better out there. Respect

I'm grateful for a peek at the new fave - thanks for the link, I'll see how I get on tomorrow with the Fladen special and I'm sure payday will incorporate a spinning/lure tax each month if all goes well! ha ha!

Cheers man

Cool. just seen some of the s**te they churn out with being a jack of all trades (fly rod+reel+flies+centrepin for £30), seeing their range of products on sale in Cash Converters window put me off the name but the lures looked ok in "the range" shop in Halifax... Thought I'd better ask the experts before parting with cash!

How would I go about testing the hooks and split rings? just boff it into a fencepost and pull, then check for openings on the links?

Learning to control a lure is my next task but I'm sure practise makes perfect, can catch in the sea so should be able to in the canals (that's my theory anyway Ashamed )

Thanks man!

to be fair i think we all will admit to owning some of these lures, i have recentlt bought 3 fladen lures which i got for £2.97. its not price which makes the lure its the action. sure these aint my faves but if you think im gonna throw 22 quid lures around in cas wierpool where there are more bikes than halfords then think again. i am currently looking at cheaper lures as i know that particular stretch is renound for tackle losses.

Nice one, I'll pick a couple of 8cm ones up tomorrow afternoon.

I always try to take a popper out with me - cause if there is sign of bait fish fleeing and scattering, or the pike are basking about in the lillys etc then a popper can be a devastating lure.

Dunno if you know guys but Chapmans angling are doing a lot of the savage gear stuff (4-Play/Deviators etc) for £3.99 at the mo. Considering i paid £10 for my 4-plays a year ago you can't go wrong at those prices:

https://www.chapang.co.uk/view.php?&module=products&parent=1132

Gonna post this in a new thread too in case people don't read this.
