Thats just it ! They look great ! ... Do they work ? ? ? Who cares ! Theyre "pretty"
Seriously ! I can see the advantage of a lure that only works 2ft of water, deadly on the right day isi ?!?!
Have gone for a couple of surface "cheapys" in my buy spree(one not so cheap) Will put link up.

big fork american hardwoods etc etc.
i have got rid of loads latlely that i dont chuck much stuff like the bikini baits cobbs countdowns and cranks, wood depthraiders shallowraiders
ive kept a few big cranks like 9 inch grandmas the legends just to be different than what everyone else throws

ive a fair few big macs (9) from storm most of which are immaculate with boxes and im thinking of offloading them at these prices the shallow ones dont seem to fetch the same money though

me big macs

A good solid mixture of lures there John, I do like the look of the trueglides and the Llunberg gear but I have no room in the lure box for another load of glidebaits No

what the lure you always buy to many of geek

know what you mean though most of what i got rid of were glides and largish cranks both of which i did really have too many of

saying that there are glide baits then there are glide baits form the twitch to the big long gllide to the mre erratic versions

the cobbsand bikinis i sold were covered by others like the hectors ace sweet shads etc so it was pointless owning them any more

i would have to pick five fom what o own to cover me though

the smuttly db series four and five inch
hector
ace sweet shad 66 and 150
marks pb glider
smuttly t6

with a liitle playing those lures cover me from 20 feet through to the surface with a little thought and reweighting on the ace ones (fairly cheap)

the others i do like but i dont think are essential to have as yet the mantas may be based on the little ive thrown them though.

to think i owned a manta when i started this lure fishing lark and thought it was dire scratch just goes to show how easy it is to get stuff wrong when your new to something

ace hell tails i cant fualt em

if it wasnt for ace and fox i probably wouldnt be into the lure like i am now, and the hell tail flipper and sweet shads from ace along with a dive rise thing they used to do were the main baits i used from that stable, and still do but now there are a coupleof other ones as well like the fat flippers sirens

if you can find em fox did some ok ones as well just check and re epoxy the eyes in em when you get em as some were not glued in, the fox ones for me gremlin, demon, pacemaker the dolphins

any way back to the hell tail, god pull bait and you can work it in a few ways from low and slow to cranked at a rate of knots over subsurface weed
on the pause it sinks on the pull it rises its worth having something that does the opposite as well

the wrong baits is an awkward one as i may love something and the next man may hate it,

two of the most popular that divide opinion like no other are the burt (and its squirelly brother) and the rapala SSR

for the record i hate both Suspect

Re: Lures and stuff

Post by noodle on Sat Apr 03, 2010 5:59 pm

chief just for you the ace lures i own, not all of them by a long shot and there are a couple of models i couldnt find in the boxes, i suspect the boxes are buried in the boat
but here goes

top to bottom
dice rise style cant recall the name but im sure its based on a ks big daddy, has a flat rise with a side to side motion in the shape of an umberella if that makes any sense
ace medic i think top water that sinks and all of them do so you need to keep the speed right to keep it on top but casts better than any other lure i own so comes in handy if boats creep too close or you want to get some line out
hell tail large one great on deep water or over weed works on a slow troll as well
wobblin flipper dont ignore these lovely lure for casting and trolling near neutral bouyancy some float some sink gives you a lot of control even at slow speeds just twitching it back

siren nice little glider with the option of using it on a straight retrieve for a lot of wobble, and one of the easiest lures to work around trees weeds etc as it is so steerable
small fat flipper just buy one or two as they are not the most glidey but offer something different in they work up and down as well as side to side
wobblin scud never cast it yet as its one of the surface baits im trying out this year

large fat flipper same as the small one but bigger profile weighs more works a bit deeper
sorcey fantastic big bait that takes some getting used to but once it starts weaving and diving in open water it calls out to pike with the amount of water it does move
ace sweet shad 150 probably the glidebait that started it all for me bought my 1st one in the seconds bin at teh 2001 pac convention and caught with it the day after nice glides with a wobble on teh drop if its a sinker or a weave on the rise if it floats

now the eagle eyed amonst you may point out that some look like they have never been chewed and your right as a good few are stock baits (ones to replace lures that get lost or broken) as you may see some dont have hooks on they are from packing boxes and ive taken the pics of them as they are the best to illustrate the finishes where im down to my last couple of them you can see teh damage repairs etc
magnum woblin flipper same for the smal one but bigger 10 inches or so

top one the daiwa dead or alive from harris at 15 quid the pic doesnt do it justice you cant really see the scaling etc
bottom the cofunazzy and the detail on that is fantastic comes with a spare tail and spare fins but at 30 quid plus post it should do

waiting on the hasuzzy to land as yet but that should be very nice

it sfishing pool who do the ace baits selling off surplus stock check out the other items they have and save him as a seller may seem steep 16.75 posted but remember that is for five of them he usually has flippers and others up in bundles as well

most who sell single lures from ace like the sorcey i reckon have bought some of those multipacks and are trying to sell them on Wink

or you can buy direct from them just google fishingpool

HELP !!!

You guys are sending me into meltdown lol!

I have to admit i am more than a little bemused by it all at the moment.

I had a great 'teaching' day out with Woody and Chief yesterday [blog to follow] - but as with all things that are worthwhile - the more i hear the more questions i have scratch I know it is the learning and the trial and error that make it all the more fun and more worthwhile - but at the moment my head is spinning.

Yesterday i caught two fish on a rapala shad [may not be correct name] - these are lipped floating lures which i cranked down and then twitched - varied speed on the retrieve etc

I caught one fish on a Savage freestyler - roach pattern - is this a jerk / pull or glide bait? anyway it sinks and i treated it as a jerk bait as shown by woody i pushed the tip of the rod down and then to the side retrieving at various speeds - my rod though isnt a stiff jerkbait rod - mick brown spin stick - and i got the impression that the more tippy action of the rod spoilt the lure action - and for me it seemed to move too quickly ??

The lure i enjoyed the most was a jerkbait i borrowed of woody - this was a heavier lure and i could feel its response much better - and i found it easier making it do the side to side action i was aiming for.

The last two lures produced by far the most follows and i found them more satisfying than the plug/crankbait type of lures.

Now - please excuse my descriptions - i am not really sure what is crank - or glide or jerk ..........i will get there - especially by listening to you guys with the knowledge then getting out there and giving them a go....bloody confused at the moment though scratch
