rig length... Empty rig length...

Hi

Fairly new to carping and using a pretty standard hair rig with shrink tube at bottom base of hook and over eye to create more of an angle for hooking. Interested to know if playing around with the length of the rig from the mainline to hook will make a big difference? Thoughts please scratch

You have to change your rig to suit where your fishing. for example I would use shorter rigs if fishing over a heavily baited area. This is because carp have less distance to move before finding another bait, so a short link will allow the hook to hit the weight of the lead sooner and helping to set the hook. Also a longer link gives more natural movement. Once again if you fish in silt, or light weed, then the hook links should generally be longer.

There is no one rig fits all to be honest messing about with hook lengths and even hook size can make a hug difference in the amount of fish you bank

That's the way Beechy, just play around mate, as Stotty says, different lengths for different situations, ie tight baiting situations generally use a short hooklink and a spread of bait ie boilies use longer hooklinks, also know what your bait/rig is lying on, by that I mean silt/gravel, weed etc, I would use longer hooklinks for most weed/silt lakebeds but a shorter hooklink on gravel/firm areas, personal preference may also play a part, I know people who will "only" use 10-12" hooklinks and others who "only" use 4" ones, funny old game, just be confident Wink
