Talking about Pike

Right lads I have been asked to do a talk for the Selby Region of the PAC, I am bricking it

What the fook do I know about Pike fishing

Well, if you do insist on catching big pike, what do you expect

I'd like to know half of what you know.

The bloke that done the lanarkshire one mate just gave it the big. This is me catching a pike on a boat and i cant tell you where i was or what i caught it on , this is me catching a pike on a loch and i cant tell you where it was or what i caught it on , This is me with my best mate at our favourite venue his face is obscured because i cant tell you who he is and i cant tell you where our favourite venue is , this is my favourite lure but i painted it a different colour because i cant tell you what my favourite colour is and so on and so forth needless to say we havent booked him again..... i cant tell you why or where the next talk will be It was a poor night the bloke was totally useless and wouldn't answer any of the questions put to him. So as a guide just take loads of pictures of carp and deny that you can pike fish...that seems to be the format for these do's.

I have caught 8 20lb Pike in 5 years of fishing for them, not the best results for a specimen angler, but I have learnt a few things along the way, so it might be fun

Your very kind Ken, but Pike fishing is actually very easy, find pike feeding and you will catch them, knowing when and why they will feed is the hard part

Good luck woody you will need to be the red hot chilli piker that night, can't you kill some time by showing different types of lures and explaining how they work or maybe tying up some different rigs?

Thats 8 more 20lb pike than Ive caught in almost 10 years of pike fishing mate

the two that I have been to have both been goods talks Gaz, Pete Foster a couple of weeks ago and Gary Knowles last year. If I can do half as good as those lads did then I will be fine

It was supposed to be professor someone but this guy stepped in at the last minute when he cancelled, Andy something you called him, at least thats what he said his name was im sure you will be fine as long as you dont get any hecklers in that night mate we will need 37 tickets

I have had some good luck along the way Tim, I have had to work very hard on some crap waters for those Pike mate, if I lived in the Lakes or the Broads I would exspect that to be 30+ 20lbers

After our two trips to the Ouse

Put that picture of me in the snow Gaz, classic

simple tell them to try carp in the summer (they might like it )

how long is the talk for. if its only short it won't be too bad but if its an hour or so it'll be hard as foooook to keep it interesting. i reckon if its say 20 minutes or so decide what topics you want to talk about such as safety, rigs lures and then rods and line etc spend only 5 minutes on each topic and the 20 minutes will fly by

and don,t forget to spread the word about in fact you could leave some ukff cards laying about on the tables

Firstly and i am sure you have - take it as a compliment - its an honour to be asked and from what i have seen during my short time on hear it only reflects what people think of the help/advice you give on forums like this.


As for the speech - my suggestion would be it should be a mix of - you talking about your passion for the sport - you giving some technical advice tips 'edges' etc - obviously lure fishing may just crop up - and lastly a few photos of captures - but in my eyes this is the least important.

Nothing worse than going to a talk to just see a slideshow of fish caught - people want to be inspired to get out there - and hopefully learn a new trick at the same time.
