Running Rigs - deadbaits ???
Hi
As a recent convert to winter piking - i watched the FOX dvd - gravel pit piking last evening.
It was a bit of a quick review and i will watch it again tonight - however the first thing i noticed was the length of the lead link on the ledgered dead bait rigs. both Cottis and Brown fished what to me [as a carper] were significantly long links. I think the difference to/from my carping experience is that you are casting a significantly heavier bait and the long link assists with presentation / tangles etc -
Is this correct and does it offer any other advantages - and finally do you lads fish with similarily long links [lead to mainline]?
Cheers

Re: Running Rigs - deadbaits ???
biggest advantage is none of th eabove sorry
with a long link (slightly longer than your trace) the lead and fish fly out on the cast together
if you just use a lead on a run ring the lead travels slower (usually) than the bait and comes up the line towards you meaning you need to faff around tightening up to it

lost the original reply sorry and missed this, the effect described gets more pronounced the bigger the bait and the smaller the lead so a 5 ounce lead and sprat wont really matter but use 3 ounces of lead and a foot long herring and the lead travels a long way
