A few diagrams of my favorite rigs for anyone to make Plaice_rig2

This Rig provides two "Flowing Snoods" with plenty of beads, linked to a main snood fitted with an attractor.
Has scored some good results for me over the years.

This Rig provides two "Flowing Snoods" with the benefit of providing excellent bite indication.
It would not be described as a common rig, but worth trying out.

A few diagrams of my favorite rigs for anyone to make 2-hook-flapper

Like its sister rig, the three hook flapper, this rig gets it's name simply because it presents the bait on two hooks which flap around. This is a simple rig to make and gives you two shots with each cast.. The two hook flapper enables longer hook snood lengths, than its sister rig. This rig does not lend itself to distance casting as the bait is "Flapping Around" as the rig fly's through the air, reducing distance and damaging the bait. However the rig is ideal for fishing of Piers and Jetty's where you can experiment with two different baits at two different depths.

As a lad I can remember when you could fish three hooks and pull in three flatties, but unfortunately those days seem long gone.

This rig can utilise either a Pennel or Single hook arrangement. When used on snaggy bottoms, the full benefits of this rig come into play. When a fish is hooked, the weight of the fish pulls against the swivel and lifts the sinker away from the bottom, making retrieval easier.
The hook snood can be altered depending on conditions. Shorter snood lengths for heavy seas and much longer snood length for calm seas.

A few diagrams of my favorite rigs for anyone to make Paternoster

This paternoster rig is an ideal rig for fishing from Piers or Jetty's. It is not suitable for distance casting, but can be used for short distance beach work. The version shown here is a three boom, however you can use either 1, 2 or 3 booms, depending on what technique you are adopting. I have even seen a guy fishing with five booms, but I would not recommend it!

I normally use the wire booms which are very in-expensive from most tackle shops, however there are plastic versions available, which are equally as effective. Both types can be adjusted up and down the Sinker snood, to adjust the depth at which your bait is presented.

A few diagrams of my favorite rigs for anyone to make Flattie-rig

This rig is superb for attracting flatties in a variety of conditions. To get the most from the rig, be keen to experiment. If the tide is strong move the booms down the line towards the lead. As the flow of the tide decreases slide the booms apart. At slack tide try two booms near the top and one down hard on the lead.(3 boom rig)

Keep an eye on which boom you are catching, if all the fish are on the top hook, slide all booms to the top.

A few diagrams of my favorite rigs for anyone to make Pennel

You have seen in the magazines that "Jim Smith caught a 6 lb Bass using squid on a Pennel.." and then wondered what a Pennel was, well it is a standard rig, but with two hooks mounted on the snood. One of these hooks can be simply slid up and down the snood, to hold larger baits, such as Squid or big Lug. This greatly improves bait presentation. To create the Pennel, create the rig as normal but before you tie the hook on the hook snood slide a small piece of rubber sleving up the line, pass the line through the loop of a hook (It is suggested that this should ideally be two sizes smaller than the main hook), the slide the tube down over the shaft of the hook. Then tie your main hook as normal.

Rigs - The Up & Over

A few diagrams of my favorite rigs for anyone to make Up-over

This rig provides a flowing trace that will sit near the sea bed. The hook snood is attached to a swivel, near the base of the rig, the long hook snood is the looped over an upside down bait clip, near the top of the trace. The bait is then held by the impact shield. When the trace hits the water the hook snood is released and the bait flows out. The rig is best suited to clean beaches without snags.
The hook can be either a single or pennel arrangement.

A few diagrams of my favorite rigs for anyone to make One-up-One-Down

This is a very basic but effective rig which present two hooks and therefore doubles your chances of a bite. The rig also offers you the opportunity to try two different baits at the same time, with one being present on the bed whilst the other is suspended in the flow.
The use of the bait clips improve casting distance and preserves the bait whilst the rig is flying through the air.
The main criteria when building this rig is to ensure that the hook snoods are not too long or they will tangle with each other leaving you in a right mess when you wind in to re-bait.

A few diagrams of my favorite rigs for anyone to make Wishbone

The Wishbone Rig is not a rig that will win the "Most Frequently Used" prize, however it is one that is worth a try if all else has failed and you want to try something different.
The biggest advantage is you can experiment with your bait, try both hooks baited the same or a different bait on each hook.
Normally you would expect to hook the fish on either one or the other hook, however last year when fishing of Norfolk, I hooked into a cod. On landing I found it had both hooks in its month, With Mackerel on one hook and the lug on the other I can only presume he fancied a cocktail !
