Floundering on the River Alt

Floundering on the River Alt
Location: River Alt Estuary, Hightown ; North of Liverpool, few miles from Crosby
Tide: Very low Neap, fishing High water down 2 hours.
Time: 20:00 - 22:00
Weather: NW gusting to about a Force 4. temp around 4 °C (felt colder with the wind chill)
Baits used: Frozen Lug
Rigs: 1 up 1 down size 2 , 18" snoods (hook length)
Target Species : Flounder.
With the Mersey and North Wales in that horrid "quiet" season, as we wait for the summer species to arrive, I decided to try out a new mark for me; the River Alt.
A narrow muddy estuary river, you can get some nice sized flounder here but not much else. An easy cast of 20 yards will put you on the fish. We walked down to the Boat club and a few hundred yards left to the water pipe. Joining me tonight was Mark and his daughter Heather, who usually manages to out-fish at least one of us !
1st in was Mark just on high water, with this decent 14oz fish

Soon after my blank was broken with this 12oz

Next up was me again with another 12oz (Scales originally said 15oz until Mark started "playing" with them !

Heathers luck looked to be out tonight, but not to be out done she pulled in a 12oz just before packing up.

An enjoyable short session and a venue I'm looking forward to fishing again, next time in the day when the suns shining and it's a tad warmer. No speciman fish tonight, or any of real size and biggest fish of the night went to Marks' 14oz to earn braggin rights :)
One for the historians, the top of the beach here is covered with smooth red rocks/stones. Mark was telling me how during the war they dumped all the bricks from houses destroyed at Crosby by German bombers, and over the years they have eroded down to what you see today.
Cheers
Simon
