anti eject rig

Post by craigpix2000 on Mon Jan 19, 2009 6:22 pm

my good old freind drizzt sent me this that he did and i thought it was bang on for a newbie even i understood it

First thing to do isto cut a length of hooklink ( in this case braid), leave yourself plenty , regardless of what length of hooklength you have decided to use . Tie a small loop in one end and then thread the other end through the eye of the hook. alter the length of the hair and when you have the correct length of hair ( this depends on size and type of bait etc as a rule i leave 10 -15 mm from the bait to the bend of the hook)tie a knotless knot , making sure the free end goes through the back of the eye. So it ends up like this.

Next cut a piece small silicone tubing 3mm in length and thread it onto the hair( if you struggle use an baiting needle to pull the hair through the tube), and then onto the hook via the point . this is how we should look now

Next cut an 15mm long piece of 1.5mm shrink tubing and thread it onto the free end of the hooklength and push it down over the eye and knot on the hook until there is about 4mm over the end of the hook

What we need to do now is shrink the tubing over the eye, but to make the hook bend inwards when we have done. To do this a rig cone is useful.

Place the hook in the groove and pull tight around the cone, the further down the cone you go, the steeper the angle on the hook

Now boil the kettle and steam the tube until it shrinks, take it off the cone and it should look like this

Now tie a loop in the other end to make your hooklength the required size , for this one i made it 6". Now for the lead , first you need these , i think they are called rig clips (top) and safety lead clips (bottom) these ones are made by korda

Thread the mainline through the centre of the cone shaped rubber and then through the centre of the lead clip , cone first

Tie the mainline onto a rig clip ( i use a palomar knot for this as its doubled and is not a strangulation knot. we should look like this now

Using the rig clip on the mainline means its easy to change rigs or unclip the hooklength and pull the loop through a pva mesh stick then clip it back on again. Thread a 20mm piece of big bore rubber tube onto the hooklength and attach the hooklength onto the rig clip, now push the rig clip into the lead clip and push the rubber tube on the hooklength over the rig clip

Push a 20mpiece of rubber tubing over the swivel of your lead and attach the lead to a rig clip then pull the tube over the rig clip as well and attach the rig clip to the lead clip.

Now pull the cone shaped rubber over the lead clip , this locks the lead in place but if the fish gets snagged the lead will just pull off the lead clip ,job done

I know it seems long winded but it's not and its worth it this is a really good anti eject rig. The carp sucks the bait in feels something isn't right and tries to blow the bait back out , the bait pivots on the hair and because of the angle the hook is at it pricks the carps mouth causing the carp to bolt which is when all the fun starts ,just try dragging the hook over the back of your hand to see how well it works, any questions or something your not sure about , give me a nudge.

ps: all the tube is available in different colours so you can match the lake bead ,or green , brown and black permanent markers are useful for disguising stuff

All is correct up to the quick release link, that should be a size 8 swivel in the end of the lead clip, inside the lead clip is a piece of hard plastic which the swivel clicks into, that way the lead is ejected properly if snagged...As it is now the quick release will just pull straight out the lead clip!!!

never has all the times i have used it channa , the lead will pull off the clip no probs if the fish is snagged while still on the mainline , and in the event of a break the rig clip pulls out no probs from the plastic insert , but never comes out under normal circumstances , as the end is virtually swivel shaped

That was just the kind of carp post I find handy, not knowing the slightest thing about carp,or rigs for that matter, its good to see the components of the rig, so thanks for that Wink

Thats a good post mate i used to use hair rig's in most of my fishing but now a day's i use a "D" rig with a critically balanced bait the "D" rig gives your hook bait more movement in the water and it's also different from what most other anglers use which is normally the "Hair Rig" don't get me wrong the hair rig is a good rig and i still use it occasionally i have some in my rig wallet
