Never knock a good un, no matter what you catch it on. Big pike are hard enough to find with livebait!

That's just lure snobbery. It used to be trouties with natural dry flies, who shunned any other method as if they were somehow superior for using bits of fluff. Now we have pike anglers telling us the only way to catch fish is on lures? The trout argument I can understand. That's going as natural as possible, without actually sticking a live mayfly on a hook but how does that work lure anglers? Surely using a dead fish and wobbling it, is the single most natural presentation you can achieve without live-baiting.
What's so superior about using injection moulded plastic fish and carved bits of wood? I like lures a lot, we know that but I don't think for a second that I'm a cut above the bait angler. All of my 20s have come to deads. Am I wrong? Am I missing a trick? I don't think so. I'll employ whatever tactics are required on the day to catch fish. I'm not going to stop bait fishing because someone who only fishes with lures for a few months out of the year tells me I'm what....cheating? I see any method as another weapon in my armoury.
To put any method down because of its efficiency, is simply mad in my opinion.

Your right Andy however I (like Chris Barlow) feel a little upset that our number one method of attack (lures) have not accounted for our pb pike 😢 😢 😢 😢

I understand how you both feel but I just don't get it. I don't care which method brings me my fish. I think as long as you are well versed in all aspects of pike fishing, you'll do well on them all on different days. Sometimes one things works and something else doesn't. You ring the changes to see which is the most effective at the time. Sticking to one method is cutting your hand off IMHO.

Yes! and I really like them. That exoskeleton-like lateral line/spine thing they have makes them almost power-cast proof and pike do like them. I just wish I had more of them at my disposal.
Big thumbs up for me.

Re: PIKE Baits

They also get called Horse Mackerel and Saurel but Scad is the more common name...Trachurus Trachurus
It's the line of bony plate, like an exoskelton of it's sine running aling the lateral line that make it ideal for wobbling or distance casting. When you feel one it's almost as if it's been designed for pike fishing. The plates are solid enough to take trebles easily but they're not going anywhere so you can really whack them.

Yea they don't seem to be that common but I'll be using them a lot more from now on and you also get a slick off them without the use of oils. Even after a defrosting and re-freezing, they still stand up to a day's fishing, which most sea-baits, let's face it, don't.
