Re: Potential Pike Disaster - advice needed.
Yeah, a slight over budget, but with the net,I got a 42"and extendable handle from a tackle shop ooop narth for £15,so do look around, I use it for carping, and pike, its a nightmare with lures tho,and subsequently has more holes than my nans pants.
I missed off bait, if you want to catch your own, then you'll save some money, but then you have the laws on the removal of fish,so may pay you to check with the E.A near you. or, the easier (and more expensive) way,is blast frozen baits, roach, lamprey, trout, perch, pollen, etc etc the list goes on: http://www.baitsdirect.com/acatalog/baits_pike_bd.html

I'm aware how fragile Pike's teeth are and have already planned to invest in some forcepts and a mouth clamp to stop injury to the fish..... and more importantly - my fingers.
well firstly i'd like to say on behalf of UKFF big welcome to our site, and please listen tl the guys on here because i can pretty much vouch for every one of them go with some one who can guid you and give you step by step instruction not only on rigs but on handling too because it's not as easy as you read
once you have passed that hurdle and get onto fishing for them regular "LIVE BAITS" all the way !!!

All advice given so far has been first rate, hand on heart mate I dont think your ready to go it alone just yet, before your trip to the lakes, we will meet up with you on a local venue and give you some pointers. I can see by the questions that you are asking (and trust me on this one mate, your asking all the right questions

Re: Potential Pike Disaster - advice needed.
if your fishing one of the rockier lakes get the sensor in 18lb or above and use weker mono lead links 6-8 with a knot in theline to weaken it further near the lead (dont leave as much line behind that way)
floats get some cheap slim sea floats they will be inline but just glue a swivel into the bottom and fish em lift method. dont ledger most of the lakes is short range stuff 20-30 yards unless you want to fish 70-130 feet of water
have you any carp hangers even the cheapest of cheap ones work ok not great but with a little thought and a couple of elastic bands make a decent drop off
get a few ready made traces from drennan or fox or one of the online makers if your not overly sure confident about doing your own
some areas on some lakes are now tackle graveyards, and most of the lakes do require hefty gear to fish.
i use 3.25-3.5 rods big pits and 0.60mm braid or 18lb sensor mono wire is 30lb (weaker so i dont leave braid behind on the rare occasions i do break with 10lb mono lead links (lead link is a short length of mono between a run ring and the lead hat allows the lead to break free when it gets snagged)
oh for leads with a float around an ounce to 2 ounces will be fine
if you reel in without a fish get the rod high quickly and crank like feck to get the gear back
sorry about the worse than usual typing the baby is trying to eat me

Re: Potential Pike Disaster - advice needed.
As always, we all help each other out and hopefully give some sound advice,As Woody said, pike is what a few of us do,(when we're not chasing carp....Woody
) so we would'nt advise or reccommend anything that we would'nt use ourselves
Any other questions,no matter how daft you may think they are, feel free to ask,we dont bite, and would rather answer the same question multiple times,in the knowledge that people go away with what we say and use it to good safe use
