I'd like to know

Post by nixon on Mon Jun 23, 2008 10:09 pm

Ok.
I know this subject has been gone over, and over and probably over again, but Id like to know what is reckoned to be THE best Bivvy, and what people reccommend for a sleeping bag,cos mine really sucked at the weekend. its a Khyam ultralite 1000,not a cheap shitty one either, but my feet bloody froze.
Now I pretty sure this will cause some dissagrements, but I just want to know an all round multi purpose bivvy.
Winter, summer, all season. ease of erection (ha ha)
Hopefully you guys can help on this subject.
cheers.

If your sleeping bag is up to the task then you only need a bivvy to keep you dry! A simple dome like the one I gave to Todd can be bought for around £50 and are easy to "erect"! I have a JRC 4 season sleeping bag and have found it quite warm even when Dan and myself went Pike fishing earlier this year. It had snowed the week before so it was still cold out but I only had to put on an extra pair of socks and was quite warm. They do a 5 season bag too for a few extra £££'s.

well in my opinion i think the best bivvy on the market is the trakker armadillo

but i must say that the nash double top professional with third winter skin £240 is a vey good bargain indeed and is very rigid and quick to erect i have one myself and cannot fault it at all .

as for sleeping bags i have the FOX 5 season sleeping bag and i,ve never got cold in it yet but again the trakker peachskin big Z ( £99 ) or the armotexx 5 season ( £ 139 ) are very good too

appreciate both your inputs,at the end of all this I shall evaluate all the selections and get myself a shiny new bivvy and sleeping bag. Gotta get ready for winter, seeing as summers all but over. No

Gaz, Nidge and myself all have the JRC Sti 2 man Bivvy. They are real easy to put up and take down (see my post!) and you can get one for around £150 now so they are not going to break the bank either!

Yeah a real long hot one this year huh LMAO .
That jrc is a good looking sturdy bivvy. may be a contender. Twisted Evil
My main issue with putting bivvies up,is the time it takes. I loose patience really easily when all I want to do is fish.

Viper or Titan the most stable bivvy you can get dont pack to small though

as for bags try and get hold of one of these ive had ice on the outside of mine and been as low as -19 in it quite comfortably, well as comfortable as you could hope at a good few thousand feet above sea level in the alps, and yes i use it for fishing too they are as good as they make out providing and this is the key to staying warm in pile and pertex stuff you wear sod all in the bag leaving clothes on just causes you to sweat and loose body heat.

mine is similar to the super bag but ive added a gore bivvy bag for more arduous situations

Nidge and I both set our rods up and cast out at lakeside before putting up our bivvies! Nidge started to put his up just before me. I kept stopping to take pictures for the post
( http://ukfishingforums.darkbb.com/general-fishing-talk-f1/errecting-the-jrc-sti-bivvy-t771.htm?highlight=jrc+sti+bivvy )
and we finished around the same time. It took us about 5 or 6 mins from getting the bivvy out of the bag to pushing the last peg in! I think it was only the second time Nidge had put his up.
