John "What a clonker" Wilson gets his MBE

Thu Jun 18, 2009 9:01 pm by nixon

Say what you want, you cant knock the fella, he's caught just about every species on just about every continent in the world, and has been gracing our screens for more than 20years.

He received national recognition in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
John joins a small, but select band of high-profile anglers, including Bob Nudd, Alan Scotthorne and Dick Clegg, in receiving prestigious awards from the Queen.
John has made more than 160 fishing programmes, with the first being aired on Channel 4 in 1987. At its peak, the show was watched by 3.2 million viewers and the famous Wilson laugh helped make the Norfolk-based angler the most famous face in the sport.
His MBE recognises his outstanding contribution to fishing as both a broadcaster and an author.
This is fantastic news and a great honour,” said John, who alongside his TV work, has written 30 books and contributed to a further 40. “My phone hasn’t stopped ringing. It really is something special when all your hard work is recognised at the highest possible level. I can’t wait to visit Buckingham Palace to pick up my MBE.”
Angling Times editor Richard Lee was among the first to offer his congratulations to John.
The contribution John Wilson has made to fishing is almost immeasurable and this award is long, long overdue,” said Richard. “I’m sure I speak for the whole sport when I say ‘well done John’.”

Cheers Mr W, here's a glass barrell of wine Red Wine
