Camping out & catching pike.

Post by REELax on Mon 12 May 2008 - 4:56

A great couple of days!!

I took a guest & his son on a one night camping/fishing trip to the outer islands of the Stockholm Archipelago on Saturday afternoon, we loaded the boat & after a 45 minute blast through the maze of islands we arrived at one of my pike hotspots.

After setting up the tent & two hennesy hammocks we tried a few spots for any sea trout that are still lingering before heading out to deeper water for the summer.

Unfortunately the sea trout were not at home so we swapped to pike lures & almost immediately i had a nice follower that turned away at the last minute! As i was telling the others what had just happened a BIG pike swirled around in shallow water to my left but after 20 mins of trying to interest it in my lure we gave up & moved to the next bay..... This proved to be a good move as Graeme was into a fish in just a couple of casts....

He then went on to land 6 in 90 mins, & lost 2, the bay was full of small herring & the pike were having a feast :)

Soon the sun started to drop & as we were now 1km from the boat we left the fish & returned to the boat & tents for a fire & some food...

Next morning i got up early & wandered back to the same bay, after 30 mins i landed a small jack & a nice fish of 12lb, unfortunately i had a rod, lures & no bleedin' camera so you'll just have to believe me on that one!! Haha...

Here's a pic of one of the jacks that has been battling through the spawning period...

Later at Sunday lunchtime we packed up & made our way back to the marina & home.....

John.

I'm thinking of doing the father/son charter more often as this was a success, if anyone wants to try this with their kids in what is really a wilderness then contact me & we can arrange something, you can be left on your own with telephone & radio contact or i can camp close by & help you out during your stay....

Regards,
John.

This is backwoods exploration within reach of the UK, i found this lake & there was no sign of anyone ever being there!! no footprints either.... A bit Jurrassic parkish!! I saw a BIG spider crawling along the bottom of the lake with it's own air bubble on it's back & the strangest of insects swimming around......

Latest fishing....

Post by REELax on Tue 20 May 2008 - 18:18

Just got in from a very windy days fishing, almost all the hooked fish today must have had lessons from Harry Houdini as they managed to give us the slip!! I was fishing with a guy from Ireland & i managed to get one into the boat finally! It weighed 15lb which isn't huge but gave a good scrap with some nice runs away from the boat. This is a venue that Stotty will fish on his trip over as there are some really good specimens here. The canal of reeds opens into a nice lagoon of reeds & as we fished there today an osprey was working overhead.... Ok, more later as i'm knackered :)

John.
