Re: Weil's disease Information (Leptospirosis)
I knew of a bloke who died from Weil's after drinking from a beer bottle, that had been stored in a cellar, which just goes to show that you could really pick it up anywhere, however, my Dad worked in a whiskey distillers for over 25 years, right beside the River Clyde and he can't ever recall anyone contracting the disease, even though rats are fairly commonplace in the grain stores. I've also fished round about the Clyde and it's surrounding waterways, which are overrun with rats and I've never heard of any anglers picking the disease up either, even though there are warning signs up.
The thing about viruses is, no matter how clean or vigilant you think you are, you could pick one up any day of the week. Certainly, you can minimise the risks but there's little or no chance of avoiding viruses completely, unless you live in a bubble. I worry about Weil's like I worry about the cold. As long as I'm doing my best, that's all I can do. If I get it, I get it but I'm not going to lose sleep about something I have virtually no control over. I'm an angler. I chose to run the risk simply by being beside the water.

The Clyde? Aye, it's clean enough and it's got plenty of fish in it too.

The thing to remember about Weils is that it can only live in wet conditions, and dies if it is not in liquid form, so wet weather is always the time to be careful

Again, if I limited my fishing to dry days, I'd get out fishing 3 times a decade...
