Trout on maggot/worm

Post by superdai on Fri Jul 25, 2008 9:05 am

Im off to Brecon tonight guys in search of what im hoping will be a few brownie's. But not on the fly. i packed my gear this morning before work. ive got some feeders, ledger and river floats. im taking my carp feeder rods and match rods ( i know theyr'e not perfect but they should be up to the job) so how do i catch em?
Trott a float?
ledger & quiver tip?
feeder with maggot or chopped worm?

Any help you can give me will be much appreciated as im taking my soon to be father in-law who is a complete angling novice and i am far from a trout expert.

Cheers

Dai.

fish small worms either under a float or touch ledger!! (u only need a couple swan shot on a link!!) dont go chuckin in a 1oz bomb!!) should sort out the wild brownys!! key is not to over complicate it keep it simple, try slightly larger baits if ya deep hookin the little sods!!

Trot red worms in slack water that should help you Wink

fish just off the bottom, if you not getting any take after say half hour to an hour fish shallower until you start getting bites.

I have a river near me thats full of brownies, I trott a worm down the swim under a stick float and because they are greedy little things it usually gets nailed first or second run through, feed a few small sections of worm through first and then get ready, as Dan said, they can swallow the hook easily so hit any dips of the float, I have also done well on bread and cheespaste Twisted Evil

just keep your rig and bait simple nothing too extravagant thats the best advice you can be given "keep it simple" are the in laws anglers ? do they fish it often themselves ? best thing is if they do ask them what they think is the best method of capture, take a look at your surroundings and the water depth if it's shallow you maybe best ledgering your bait and let it roll around naturally in the current

yeh cheese is a gooden, we get pestered by trout wen chubbin in the winter.... all depends on the size of the water and the trout there! wild brownys are rairly over half a pound! but if the river is big enough u mite hav stockys and u should hav no prob!!

no the in law does not fish, he just knows the river. Do I loose feed like match fishing (little and often) or like carpers (dump a load in)

I murdered the brownies recently on the river wear with a small swim feeder and a few maggots only fill your feeder every three or so casts and fish single maggot on the hook, if you have a bubble float try fishing a 14" leader with a daddy long legs or some hoppers it can produce some brilliant fish. but use a clear small bubble and not a big fook off orange one. lol! lol!
