Definately worth a go with the feeder rod. Use the lightest block end feeder you can get away with to hold bottom, fill with maggots and fish either single or double straight on the hook,Ive used as small as 16 for them.
When we fished the weir, literally as soon as the feeder was touching the bottom the rod was pulling round, and easily a fish every cast. This even worked for minnow, dace, chubb, and even salmon parr.
Im off to the river first thing in the morning for a day session on me todd, gunna try for the barbel and chubb first thing, then concentrate on the brownies after. should be good,so I'll post the pics up when I get chance.
Cheers

well it went ok. we took a few fish. i also took a small bull head?? how it managed to take 3 maggots on a size 14 hook i don't know!! I wan a unimpressed with it tho to much hiking for my taste. i prefer making a swim work than searching for one. besides that i can have a sit down and a coffee too!!! lol!

i took about half a dozen or so. We had about 10 between us, only about 4 for the pot. not bad considering the size of the pools. i didn't have a chance to try the lure tho! never mind will use them next time if i feel up to getting eated alive by the bugs!

Brown Trout kit:

4lb BS line. Daiwa Sensor is ideal.
Some Size 00, 0 and 1 Mepps.
The Mepps Aglia Decoree, Gold/Red spots is the best spinner pattern available for Brown Trout. Most tackle shops stock them.
Size 14 hooks for maggot.
Size 12 hooks for brandling/redworm.
Size 8 hooks for lobworm.
BB split-shot.
Various drilled bullets.
Swivels.
Loafer or Chubber floats.

That's all you need. I've been hammering broonies for over 25 years and I'd happily go anywhere with that selection of tackle on me.

Ive been hammering the brownies on our river recently. feeder rod and maggots. nothing huge as yet,up to about 1 1/2,but they fight like stink on light gear. Even picking up young salmon, and hopefully a slightly older one tomorrow Innocent Whistle
