You told me the tip was missing/damaged! It could be as noodle says, a swing tip! On a swing tip rod there is a tip section that funnily enough "swings to indicate a bite! That could be why there is no tip ring. I think they just push on like the other section and you could probably find another to fit if you took it to a good enough tackle shop!
Life is what you make it, so it's your own fault!

Hi Mate

I’m new to the forum but I’m an old git and hope this helps.

Split cane used to be THE material for making quality rods. The first hollow glass rods were both heavy and floppy and until the advent of relatively cheap carbon blanks they were the ‘serious’ anglers rod of choice. I have a few cane rods and still use them occasionally. They have a ‘sweet’ action while I would not use them on a regular basis; they are good fun for a few hours pleasure fishing. Its rather like a having a ‘classic’ car or motorbike, you wouldn’t want to use it as your regular means of transport, but its nice to take out for a spin on a sunny afternoon. Also, unlike carbon rods which are designed by computer and identical in action to others of the same make and series, a cane rod is with a one off, with no two rods from the same blank having exactly the same action.

What you appwar to have is the bottom two sections of a 12 or 13 foot float rod. If you can get hold of the tip section and provided the rings, ferrules and whippings are in good condition, I would give it a couple of coats of exterior varnish and use it.
