Basic fly tying part three....
Right fellas tomorrow night from 8pm i will be posting a step by step guide to tying the dog biscuit fly, i intend to try them out at lake side this weekend anyone coming along who wishes to have a go at fly fishing im more than happy to lend you the gear and give you a few pointers. Im hoping with stottys help to get them into a dog biscuit feeding frenzy then present a tied dog biscuit fly among them and get into a carp i have never caught carp on the fly before so it should be an interesting experiment. If you have any suggestions for patterns you would like to see tied please post them in here and i will do my utmost to tie them and post them out to you.

Re: Basic fly tying part three....
that should be perfect, the only thing worrying me is the braided loops i have im not sure they would be up to the lunges a carp makes?? but i cant see how else to present the line without spooking the fish? any ideas

All I have been told is that a long leader (10-12lb) is needed and thats all I know about it mate

The Dog Biscuit Fly...
As promised fellas heres how i tie a dog biscuit fly, being more commonly used when fly fishing for carp these days. What im going to do is pack the fly tying kit this weekend and anyone who wants to have a go is more than welcome.
STEP 1: the tools needed for this job are simple we will need whip, needle, thread holder, vice, sharp scissors.
Materials will be yellow thread pre waxed, deers hair or rabbit hair, clear varnish.

STEP 2: Hook position is always important but just make sure you are sitting comfortably and can tie without stretching.

STEP 3: Wind on the thread in the usual way being careful not cause any bumps or overlays in the thread.

STEP 4: Only bring the thread 3/4 of the way down the shank this time as we dont need to go to the end this time as there is no tail to tie.

STEP 5: Select either deer or rabbits hair, i prefer deer hair as it is stiffer but rabbit is equally as good.

STEP 6: Pinch off a bunch of hair but not too much

STEP 7: Tie your bunch of hair onto the hook using two or three turns of the thread dont pull it too tight as we dont want a big spread just a nice evn one.

STEP 8: Tie in another few bunches until you have reached the top of the hook shank and it should look nice and bushy.

STEP 9: Using the whip tool finish off the thread and cut neatly.

STEP 10: Trim all the hair under the belly of the fly so that it is virtually flat and start to shape the hair on top of the shank to a dog biscuit shape or some people do them rounded.

STEP 11: You should be left with something that looks like this.

STEP 12: Varnish the head to keep it all together and hey presto !!!!

Well it looks like a fookin dog biscuit to me
I would be grateful if someone could re size the images to fit the screen.
