I am a student filmmaker living in London and I am making a 90 second film about two fishermen. I am looking for real fishermen to star in this film. I am thinking of filming on the Thames near Hampton Court but any other suggestion of nice places near London are more than welcome. The two fishermen don't need any acting experience as there will only be a couple of lines or maybe none at all. If anyone is interested I am thinking of filming for one day either on 7th, 8th, 14th or 15th of November. ...

Rod licence evasion is at a record low

From Angling Times

At a time when more licences are being sold than ever, figures obtained from the Environment Agency show that the nation’s fishermen are cleaning up their act.

Improved bailiffing policies and awareness of regional ‘hotspots’ favoured by illegal anglers have been cited by the Agency as being central to the lower evasion rates, with all regions of the country showing fewer offenders, apart from the Thames area, which continues ...

The nation’s tackle shops could soon be selling live fish for use in predator fishing, if bold proposals from within the sport get the go-ahead.

One of angling’s most controversial topics, livebaiting, was thrust back into the limelight last week, after 80 per cent of Angling Times readers said the new byelaw consultation currently before Government should prohibit the removal of any fish from the nation’s rivers.

Toxic spill in river kills fish

At least 2,000 fish died in the spillage

Thousands of fish have died in River Wandle in south London after a toxic spillage entered the river.

The Environment Agency has begun an inquiry into the incident which killed at least 2,000 fish along a 5km stretch of the river.

Local residents called up the agency and reported seeing fish floating on the surface between Beddington in Croydon and Merton on Monday.

The Environment Agency has confirmed reports from local anglers that the River Wear at Chester-le-Street, County Durham, has become a spawning site for lamprey.

So far the Environment Agency has identified 12 spawning sites and a total of seven adult Sea Lampreys have been spotted in them.

Scientists are continuing to search for more of the fish as they are extremely rare and provide a good indication of the high quality of the river water.

Mexico's navy has seized more than a tonne of cocaine stuffed inside frozen sharks.

Officers cut open more than 20 shark carcasses filled with slabs of the drug after checking a container ship in the southern Mexican state of Yucatan.

Drug gangs are coming up with increasingly creative ways of getting drugs into the United States - in sealed beer cans, religious statues and furniture - as Mexico's military cracks down on the cartels moving South American narcotics north.

This is achieved very easily by pushing the weight in the base up to the main body, in practice it can be done with one hand. If you are using your rods 'beach caster style' the line biter is still active even if it is not in contact with the water. Obviously it is very visual, and due to the ...

Angling Times columnist Keith Arthur is one of those pushing for the introduction of the ruling, which would give bailiffs grounds to expel anglers who break laws from fishing clubs.

The call comes after concern over the future of fish ...

Sea Fishing Licence...........

Right guys this is usually a contentious one so lets have some adult debate on wether you think our brethern of salt should be paying a licence of some description to bring them in to line with the freshwater angler. Now im told that our licence is an environment licence and helps towards the up keep of the banks we tread etc so should sea anglers be contributing to the life boat service for example as many of them get a little over ambitious seeking out new marks and often need rescued. Lets ...

CC Moores 9one for Kevin ) Milkimin Pellets: Now we all tend to assume pellets come in similar shapes and colours, reds and browns, all tend to be dark and either sink or float. CC Moore's have a very interesting and different pellet called Milkimin pellets. Firstly the most obvious aspect is the colour, a nice visible white shade; these have varying densities so settle at different rates, with some remaining suspended. After a while the pellet gives off a very visual tasty plume, eventually ...

new ESP carp hook

Curved shank lovers rejoice (thats me) - these new hooks from ESP are both 'Hearn sharp' and "that weren't coming out" hook hold quality. Featuring a perfect contoured curve with a slightly in-turned eye (this follows the shape of the curve) and a long, straight needlepoint, both combine to offer outstanding hooking properties. Produced from a super high carbon steel and ultra slick, non-glare Teflon, the new Curve-Shanx is available in sizes 4 to 10. www.esp-carpgear.com

KHV (Koi Herpes Virus)

We have just got back from a stay at White Acres, to find mid-week that they have now been confirmed as having KHV.

As responsible anglers, we need to disinfect all our gear to stop the spread of this horrible disease. Does anyone know a "solution" that will kill the virus that is also safe to use on reels, unhooking mats, weigh slings, landing nets etc, etc.

Any help would be greatful as we also have to be super careful as we have koi in our pond at home.

Thanks ...

Daiwa SS3000

Daiwa SS3000 used to be the reel of the nineties

this was the reel to be with in the 90's

The one that changed the face of carp fishing reels forever. It wasn't a niche it carved by a cult following and now the good news is, it's back from this month. Although Daiwa won't give us specific figures, demand is expected to outstripped supply by 200% - basically they will sell quicker than the iPhone.
