Whatever it is, it better involve plenty of beer or there is no chance!

Life is what you make it, so it's your own fault!

Re: Starting carping what do I require?
It can't come round too quick for me now! Every time I read something on here I think, I've run out of them, I need one of them or something like that. This is costing me a fortune. But bright side is I will have it all for the next one!

There are so many bits of equipment available at the candy shop to make your carp fishing dream come true.
Let’s have a look at what you actually need and not what makes you look good, you can work on that later
. Lets face it Dick Walker and Chris Yates caught carp over 40lb on a cane rod.
MR WALKER
A must before you start, a lot of fisheries quite rightly require an unhooking mat couple this with a good landing net these items are a must and you thought I was going to start with rods.
Carp Rods
Well a float rod will land a quite substantial Carp but if you want to do it on the alarms or on a water where there are bigger fish around the 15lbs mark a 1 3/4 to 2 lb test curve rod will do but for all round a 2 ½- 2 3/4 is a good one and For distance, casting 3lb is ideal.
Carp Reels
Reels need to be matched to your carp rod, you don’t want to be putting a huge pit reel on a small rod and what’s the point of having a rod that can cast to the horizon but only has 100 yards of line on it. Also not essential but one of the best kinds of reel you can have is Called a bait runner. It has a little lever that lets the carp take out line during a screaming run so he doesn't pull your rod reel etc into the water very handy when you’re tucked up in your Bivvy in the middle of the night.
Line for your reel
the line will match the rod and reel what’s the point of 18lb line on a light rod on water full of 10lb fish.
Hooks
see the link on hooks
Lead systems
The safety lead clips have benefits for both the carp angler and the carp. For these reasons they have become very popular with the modern carp anglers. also see link
or in line
Rucksack or carry all and rod bag.
You will require something to carry it all in and to keep those rods safe.
Tackle Box
I like the fox boxes the best investment you can make every thing has a place in the dark I know where my hooks are etc.
But there are others.
Alarms you can get away with out theses at the start if you plan to sit and stare at your rods all day but there are some very good cheap ones out there now so I would recommend getting a set coupled with a set of swingers or bobbins for bite indication.
Cheap alarms
not so cheap
and to go with you alarms swingers! (back off woodyit's not the sort your after)
I prefer these but thats just me!
This will show drop back runs (when a fish comes toward you).
And can i just add something to this also stotty
Specimen landing net is also required 42"minimum
