lead core splicing
lead core like it loath it. It has its place in carp fising in my eyes.

Step 1 - hold the end of the leader material and tease out the lead wire
Step 2 - hold the lead wire and pull back the outer braid covering (about 4")
Step 4 - cut off the exposed lead wire and allow the outer covering to return to its original size you will now have a limp end on the lead core
Step 5 - taking the gate-latch needle the best i have found is the fox one

carefully enter the braided section with the hook part.
Step 6 - tease the needle along the material. If it comes out of the side of the braid start again.
Step 7 - when you have got nearly half way along the braid push the gate-latch needle out of the side of the braid.
Step 8 - pick up the far end of the braid with the needle and close the latch. Start to pull the needle back out of the braid you need to gently tease the needle out of the braid. Continue until the needle comes right out of the end of the braid.
Step 9 - hold the loop and pull the other end tight. The leader then straightens out it should look like this.

once you have done a few 100 you can do them with your eyes shut

I'm just getting in to carping, what do you use it for.

Leadcore is a strong woven braid with a strip of lead wire inside, leadcore has been “borrowed” by us carp anglers from fly fishing.
We use it to pin the end tackle down this stops the fish from spooking
Please note
On some waters leadcore is banned, due it getting used unsafely.
Re: lead core splicing
you can buy these ready made and also the tungsten type that I use!
Life is what you make it, so it's your own fault!
Re: lead core splicing
Do you just tie it to your main line, then add a hook length. Can you use it with the running rig. :D
Re: lead core splicing
I tend to have a swivel attached to one end for the hook link to attach to and then use the loop to loop method at the other end to attach my mainline!

Re: lead core splicing
hope this helps you get a better understanding of how lead core is used mick
i splice my leadcore it's much better than tieing say a loop to loop simply because of when you retreive your bait back you'll pick up a lot of weed where as if you spliced it's just so smooth nothing there for it to catch on. also the whole presentation of the rig look better and is stronger.

There are various different knots you can use to attach your mainline to your Leadcore, using a swivel is not one of them(this can turn it into a death rig) . Yes you can have a swivel at one end (hook end) but it should be ether loop to loop or as my young apprentice said spliced on to the main line.
loop to loop easy way

but i would rather splice it on
