LEAD AND TUNGSTEN RIG PUTTY

Post by tackle tart on Sun Jun 29, 2008 9:40 am

rig putty is a great product from kryston and when it first came out i used to use it just for my rigs but now i use it for all manner of little tricks while out fishing

[img][/img]

i use little bits on my hook lengths to nail them down hard on the bottom

[img][/img]

i also like to use it when i,m fishing with tubing tubing and again i just rap some small pieces around it at various points to nail it hard on to the bottom

[img][/img]

regardless that you can buy products like the safe zone from KORDA that has lead putty impregnated into the tubing or the esp tubing or Nash that again incoporate tungsten in to them i still like to put it on my self as that way you are working to the fishing situation on the day and with the above product you are buying it already done and in some fishing situations this might not be right but for most they are ok

[img][/img]

now i like to fish on running rigs and i like to use a flouro carbon leader the reason being is two fold one its heavier and will sink on the bottom and the other it is invisible now thats ok but i do feel it does not lay totally hard on the bottom and i came up with a little trick that helps to nail it hard on the bottom by using rig putty on the flouro carbon although i,m doing this i,m not bothered about losing that it will now not be invisible trust me i drop this in the margins and i cannot see one covered

firstly get your line

[img][/img]

and than get the rig putty you want to use i like to use the brown this blends really well with the bottom of the lake you are fishing

[img][/img]

need a piece between your finger to get it soft then rap it around your line holding the line taught

[img][/img]

now squeeze the putty firm on to your line and slowly draw it up and down the line keeping tension on the putty with your fingers and do this to the length you want to cover i do about 4 ft

[img][/img]

after you have done this a few times you will see that the line has taken on a very thin layer of the putty and will become heavy should look like this

[img][/img]

after a few attempt you will find by taking off a bit of pressure when drawing the putty up your line you can get less on one end and you will see this by the colouration becoming lighter one end
this will now sink like a stone and nail your line down around the the lead hopefully now allowing the carp to not detect it

kevin

Great info there Kev. I just use tungsten leaders with back leads but I'm sure I will have a go at this in the future. Yup

I made the post sticky too! Wink

If its invisible, why apply the putty like you do? Might as well use normal mono.

Also with a lot of carp fishing if you confident in what your doing it can help you sit on your hands and get that all important fish on the bank. I will also add you can’t do enough with pinning you rigs and lines down. When you watch the under water videos the fish can spook as soon as its tail hits a line or rig so I cant see that it hurts.

Heat it up in the palm of your hands that helps.
