How confident?.....
How confident are you when fishing a new water?I always tend to worry "Am I in the right swim" "How come other people are catching" "Am I using the right bait" "Is my presentation Good enough" these are the things that bother me on a new water, infact some of these bother me on regular waters I fish,is it just me or is this an problem for other carp anglers alike?
Re: How confident?.....
Crafty personally when i go out im going to get away from it all for a few hours so i dont tend to think to much about what may or may not lie ahead, that said i predominatley fly fish and i can generally have a look around the water at insect life and stab a pretty good guess at what the feeding pattern is. However carping is a whole new ball game to me and i have never been comfortable with the thought of a pellet or a boilie on my hook rather than say worms or maggots that are actually what i see as a bait. I guess its a confidence thing that said it really depends on how you feel on a particular day, how many times have you went out with the new pb attitude and blanked, then on other days just nipped out for an hour or two and caught a whopper ??So i guess the answer to your question is no its not just you i imagine its a thing we all go through each time we get the rods out, but you wouldnt change it for the world i bet !!
HASTA LA VISTA CARPIE IM AFTER A DOUBLE
Re: How confident?.....
i try and find out as much about the new water i,m going to fish before i even go to it this helps my confidence no end .
also i have confidence in my bait and i know its a good food source if place in the right place i should catch . but until you start fishing the water you never are really confident until you have fished the water a few times and started to pick up where the feature are and your tactics start to work, and a couple of fish under your belt then you start to build up a picture and again this helps confidence no end .
so i would say i would confidently fish a new water but would not really settle on it until i,ve banked a fish .

Kev,
as a novice a luv ta hear the likes of you talk about going to a new area and have the same worries and thoughts as me, as you say about the more you go to 1 area then you gain the knowledge etc, i feel confident at Reepham now and everytime i go there are more regulars shedding their experience and the owner giving his advice, i now feel confident what bait to use but i still need to try perfect the techniques at that fishery to catch the big ones
