Record claim thrown out by BRFC...

THE man who cheated to catch Britain’s biggest perch has had his claim officially rejected by the British Record Fish Committee.

In January Robert Townsend reported a 6lb 2oz specimen from the River Thames and, to begin with, the angling world united in congratulating the Surrey-based rod.
Within a week, however, accusations began to fly that not only had Robert taken the huge specimen while poaching a private marina at Thames Ditton, but also that he didn’t have a valid rod licence.

At the time Mr Townsend said: “I was fishing with a friend who had a licence, and as I was using one of his rods I thought I was covered. If they don’t want to give me the record, then that’s down to them.”

This week the BRFC announced that the claim has been thrown out because of “too many inconsistencies in the evidence.”

The Environment Agency has since revealed that next month they will be taking Mr Townsend to court for fishing without a valid rod licence.

Some people have no shame what an idiot fancy claiming a record knowing a) that your poaching and b) you dont have a valid licence they are usually the first two things checked.

But in all fairness with or with out a rod license and poaching it should IMO still stand .... it is in fact a new record rod and line caught fish of 6lbs 2oz (that is if it actually was 6lbs 2oz IMO it didn't look it) he still caught it, weather it was him or someone with a license it's still 6lbs 2oz i new record

A record yes, but an official record no.. its a bit like being offside yes it was a great goal but its offside so it doesnt count, the rules are clear for all to see and having an ea licence is the first.

I don't like what I'm about to say but, I agree with "taffy" on this one!

Common sense will always prevail my black and white friend...

he has been fined £290 for not having a rod licence....

I suppose it's better than nothing!
