Pike in the spring
Pike fishing is often considered to be a winter pastime and , indeed, deliberatley fishing for pike during the spring and summer months is frowned upon in some quarters. It is true that pike can be a delicate species, and they require careful handling and after capture care, but this applies at all times of the year. Studies show that tagged pike have shown that correctly handled pike suffer no ill effects from being captured on flies or lures during the warmer months.

Couldnt agree more. I dont fish dead baits during the warmer months, but I like to lure fish. Catch a pike before November and it scraps 10 times harder.
Re: Pike in the spring
Got to agree it was always a winter sport for me but I have a whole new out look on the sport now

As a 90% lure angler, my best sport comes during the warmer months, but usually during dusk and dawn if the weather is too warm. As soon as the water hits 50 degrees then the fish start taking lures with gusto along with the perch

Tim, go down to B&Q and get some foam lagging that goes around pipes, cut it into small circles and stick it onto your hooks

Re: Pike in the spring
I scoured through my fishing cupboard, and found some old rig tubing, thin plastic tube which I cut into very small lengths to slip onto the hooks, just enough to stop barbs getting snagged in my bag. cheaper than treble covers.
I'll let you guys know how I get on maybe on sunday once I've had some sleep.
Catch you guys laters, gotta get my 4hours beauty sleep.
